Hey!
I'm new to the forums but not to Goats, and in fact I've just recently started up my own web-comic (www.bluedingo.tk).
Looking back, there are quite a few flaws with it, but I'm hoping to correct them soon. I've been kind of rushing the story line, so the it's really jumbled and hard to understand. I only just recently got around to trying to fix that, so if you look at it, you won't understand it.
but more importantly, I'm trying to get commentary on the art. There are a few things that I've had trouble with;
(a) The backgrounds - I want to do fairly simple backgrounds, but sometimes the situation calls for a change. The best instance from my comic is the Dr. Ray strip where he learns about the fate of the men in his secret base. The background is dark and nasty and overwhelming, imo. However, in the latest comic, I experimented with a handdrawn background that I blurred. Is it a better effect?
(b) Line grainy-ness - When I scan in my work, the lines are very very grainy, with little fishhook shapes coming out of them. You can see it in some of the comics. I tried to resolve this by going over my lines twice, but it doesn't seem to work. Anything else I can do?
(c) Is there a site or a direction someone could point me in where I could learn hand-shading techniques? I'd much rather use those than the photoshop route I take (I use the pen tool to make paths along the places I think shadows should be, and then fill with 33% black).
(d) Hands. Anyone know how to draw hands?
(e) People from a perspective - I wanted to draw one of my characters on their knees with the "camera" looking down on them as they reached skyward, but my perspective is all fudged up. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Frank
