Carvel?

Is Carvel a real place? Like Dairy Queen or something?

Also, there sure are a lot of zombies in this strip...

Sure... they're all over the place in the Northeast. Dairy Queen is more of a Midwestern thing, I think, though a few of them still exist around here. (From what I remember and I could be wrong here, Dairy Queen also sells things other than one form or another of ice cream -- Carvel doesn't do that.)

And that's only one zombie... he just shows up in all three panels. See how that works?

"This strip" applying, presumably, to the entirety of Goats, rather than just today's three panels. Makes more sense that way.

Whee! Pedantic!

It sure is. [carvel.com]

Tom Carvel used to insist on doing all the voiceovers for his company's commercials back in the early 80's. It was great, because he had this incredibly slow, gravelly voice that was entirely unpleasant to listen to.

I like the idea that he would traverse the unimaginable boundaries between life and death so he could come back to hawk more cakes.

Tom Carvel had the distinction of being the inventor of soft serve, by the way.

Although, the carvel's are becoming a bit rare. There used to be one near my house growing up that sold soft serve cones too. Mostly they sell them at the grocery stores now.

There's still a drive-in DQ in Lake George (upstate NY) that sells food, across from the drive-in A&W. At least, it was still there last summer when I went home; I'm sure they tore it down to put up yet another mini golf course, go-cart track, or possibly a new parking lot for the amusement park. Man I love progress.

Wow, not just creamy, but ALSO crunchy. What a wonderful world we live in. Well, what a wonderful world YOU live in, since we don't have them.

What we have out here (Minnesota and Wisconsin) that you probably don't have is Culver's. They specialize in frozen custard and butterburgers. Their web site [culvers.com] can probably explain it better. They just put one by my house a couple years ago, and they're great.

This Tom Carvel guy sort of reminds me of Dave Thomas, the guy who founded Wendy's. He was always in all the Wendy's commercials, delivering his classic jokes/groaners. I actually only found out yesterday that he died last year.

We would also have to have a Carvel cake at the pub...that would help convince him as well.

What is the cost for one unit of beer at the pub?

I'm sure a sufficient donation pool could be assembled to
a) pay for the units of beer
b) pay for the Carvel cake
c) pay for at least the rental of a recording unit of sufficient capacity to record the experience

It wouldn't be nearly as amusing a racial slur if they had.

Or at least, they wouldn't have thought it was 'funny' if "Cookie O'Puss" didn't look like a Cookie Puss, done up in green and shamrocks for St.Patrick's Day.
