So many words...

Wow, I've never seen so much writing in a comic before the Resurrection (and the Twix Saga pt.4) series. This isn't a complaint, of course. But...man, look at all that! Granted, Diablo's Twix stories are usually pretty text-heavy, but these really push the boundaries.

I remember one of the earlier comics had a note with it saying "this is the point where I realized that there was only so much text you could put in a comic frame" or something. Obviously, Jon found a way to put more. But where is the line between text-heavy comic and illustrated essay? Much to ponder...

Sometimes these Twix stories work for me; sometimes they don't.

I really liked today's - the thought of freeing a hovercraft and seeing it drift up into the sky is a happy one indeed.

It's interesting, actually; I get a lot of feedback both ways. People seem to either hate 'em, or love 'em. I had gotten resigned to the fact that most people truly hated the Twix stuff, having received countless threats from readers who were dying to see the stories end and never return to the site. Since I draw the strip for myself, though, that just encourages me to do more, of course.

As of late, though, the mail has been overwhelmingly positive, with most people writing to tell me how glad they are to see him back. Just goes to show that you shouldn't compromise your art because of a few critics early on.

That's true.

You should only compromise your art for GOBS AND GOBS OF CASH, BABY! MOOLAH, MONEY, LOTS AND LOTS OF G's, CASHOLA, BENJAMINS, SCRATCH, FILTHY FILTHY LUCRE, SHEKELS, LUDWIGS, JUICE, POPSICLES

This is probably your only point of similarity with Jim Davis of Garfield fame. Unless there's a collection of secret, dirty Garfield strips out there.

I hope there is. I'm sure I'll outlive Mr. Davis, so I'm waiting to see what his estate finds.

Actually, there is. In the new Garfield book "In Dog Years I'd Be Dead [amazon.com]", there's a section of strips that were deemed too violent or controversial or just morally wrong to be published in a newspaper.

You know, it's interesting how many comic strips there are out there where one of the main characters is a cartoonist.

I for one am glad to see Twix back in another zany adventure. I think it'd be neat if he made an appearance in front of the rest of the main characters, but I get the feeling he doesn't actually exist (in the strip, I mean - I KNOW he doesn't exist in real life).

PS: If this happens to get posted twice, I apologize, and I'm still trying to find out why it's doing that.

I find the twix saga's some of jon's best. We see his art with almost every strip, and we know it's good, but the twix saga's bring to light jon's (or should I say, Diablo's) excellent story telling abilities. While it would be overwhelming to have this amount of text in a comic on a regular basis, jon seems to have the timing for interjecting a good twix story down to art.

Well Cathy has a TON of text but it all sucks.
