flashy page curl hanging in the corner?
posted Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - 02:33 AM (#43238)

What is the deal? My first thought was "urgh, tacky", but hey, to each his own. I mouse over it and it seems to be some kind of promo... only when you click on it, you are taken to a site calling itself Zune Arts.

Do you remember Zune? It was the horribly awful music player developed by Microsoft. They planned to sell one million in the first year: they sold 35,000. Microsoft will not let this horse die, apparently.

I've no idea what Jon has to do with this, if anything, but the phrase "selling out" is drifting through my mind. This is a kind of advertising I think the world could do without.

I have repeatedly stated from the very beginning that my intention was to sell out. Unless you're willing to purchase many hundreds of t-shirts this month to make up the lost revenue from taking a fairly unobtrusive ad off the site, I'm going to have to decline.

Most people who really care about these sorts of things have gone on to use plugins like Flashblock [mozdev.org]and Adblock [https] and left the rest of us alone. I consider that a polite and efficient course of action!

Wait, there's an ad in the where now?

Actually I like the corner peels, it's like a little intrusion of 3D into my unrelentingly 2D world.

I'm sure I'm supposed to say something obsequious or obscure here.

For the life of me, though, I can't think what...

Whatever it might be, it's excitingly penultimately positioned anterior to the Five Thousandth zamphirism!

So the question on everyone's minds: Is that a Lobster eggroll or a crawdad burrito? And does he serve either at his bar?

Shhh.

You'll ruin it for those that have attention spans, but no memory. I already knew because I'm the reverse.
