Thursday Cliffhanger Poll - The Resurgence
posted Thursday, July 06, 2006 - 02:00 PM (#35113)

So it was the fault of my own supreme laziness that these things stopped going, so I guess it's up to me to get them going again.

Before we begin, I'd like to report that last night I had a dream where I was introducing a 'Professor Makinyon' at a fancy dinner. Professor Makinyon was wearing a hat that looked just like the hat of our own Resident Professor of Goatematics [du.edu]. This dream may or may not be related to the sudden resurgance of the TCP.

Anyhow, so Fineas' expression in the last panel of today's strip seems to suggest that Oliver has gained the upper hand. Or has he?

POLL: How will this epic confrontation end?

4% (1) Unable to stand the sight of his friend being tortured in such a way, Fineas will succumb to Oliver and give up the robot. The strip will then revert to a gag-a-day deal, though this time about Fineas and Diablo living with the Slugs.

23% (5) Fineas will unleash his Fish-Fu spirit. An epic battle lasting six months will ensue. It will end in an unsatisfying draw.

38% (8) Wait, why do giant rocks hurt Diablo when he can have his head ripped off and still be perfectly fine?

0% (0) Oliver will see the error of his ways and tell Fineas where Phillip is. He will spend the rest of his days atoning for his sins against the Slugs, granting both tribes a cupcake-filled utopia. I know, I didn't see it coming either.

33% (7) Carl and Roger will reemerge from the pit. Though only an instant has passed, the two ex-bikers have lived a thousand lifetimes in the time-altering pub, with only two things to occupy them: beer... and the lust for revenge.

I voted for bikers, but only because you sadly left me devoid of sausage options.

The only lust they had left was for revenge - and you think it wasn't the sausage option?

This dream may or may not be related to the sudden resurg[e]nce of the TCP.

Let us assume it was that and nothing more.

Please.

Good poll. With regard to option 3 and the next-to-last panel [goats.com], I suspect that Diablo is simply worried about contracting diabetes.

Great Poll or the Greatest Poll? (Score: 1)

Good poll.

I think option 1 (gag-a-day- slug comic) was kind of weak. Originally it contained a corny reference to Sluggy Freelance, but the character limit on poll options foiled me.

I personally voted for the epic duel lasting 6 months, though that's just because I've always been a fan of Fish-Fu.

I was personally expecting someone to question whether the Slug-World Pub Stub would actually have altered time since its contained within a real dimension, thus subverting my C/R option. I guess that someone will have to be me.

All listed options except the second appear to be at most only partially correct, some more than others. If gag-a-day were intermingled with the overarching epic, and it happened to include the monochromatic Pub Stub with goofy accents, i wouldn't complain. Sometimes we get gags in every image; sometimes in the day's capsule; and occasionally spread over an entire saga. It's like Douglas Adams' tales of the final message to the Universe or the last words of the planet's departing sentient beings... but nobody apologizes for inconvenience, and we get to see awesome drawings!!
