Cliffhangers? We don't need no stinking cliffhangers. I got boxes to pack.

In any case, something seems missing from the current flashback ...

For Goataku, the word "fairy" has a ... connotation [stoolfairy.com].

My fairy name [emmadavies.net], by the way, is Columbine Iceglow.

She is a bone chilling bringer of justice for the vulnerable. She lives in mushroom fields and quiet meadows. She is only seen in the light of a full moon. She wears lilac and purple like columbine flowers. She has icy blue butterfly wings.
I'm unable to read that without scowling.

Well, I liked the first part anyway.

He is a ridiculous admirer of the phallic and insertable. He lives in his own little dreamworld distant from reality. He is only seen glistening with crisco in the pale glow of his lava-lamp. His garb is by Goats.com, or occasionally tie-dye and other multi-colored patterns, when he wears anything at all (which is seldom). He has no wings, but he enjoys being high.

Coincidentally, i listened to every Tom Tom Club album in the past week (all four of them-- zoinks, i am so frikkin old!). They're funny and enjoyable, with plenty of hooks. But they're definitely missing a certain ingredient (some kind of craziness?) without Byrne.

On the other hand, i listened to Rei Momo recently, and it didn't occur to me that it was missing any Tom Tom Club. I guess that's one of those occasional examples of intransitive properties of musical ensembles.

True. I don't dislike Tom Tom Club [tomtomclub.net], but, for instance, the weakest part of Stop Making Sense [amazon.com] is the "Genius of Love" interlude.

Of course, the highlight of Byrne's career was his stint as professional wrestler El Diablo [tv.com].

Oh, man! I want to live in the dimension where Jonathon Demme only directs music videos!

I don't know whether it was a particular highlight of Byrne's career, but i felt True Stories was a film which stood up to many repeated viewings. [Dang, i just got momentarily nostalgic for sad mister Spalding Grey.] As far as his musical career, i like all his records (in Talking Heads, and solo) but my personal favorites are the ones with Brian Eno. Raise your hand if you own a copy of My Life in the Bush of Ghosts or the Catherine Wheel soundtrack... anyone? Too esoteric? Well i'm certain a bunch of you must have Remain in Light or The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads?

Hmm... i suspect i'm boring everybody under the age of thirty-five, and not in a good fairy-magic-wand way. Oh, wait, i seem to recall Jon mentioning that he liked David Byrne. Goodness, we are such products of a past century. This is the road to fossildom! Hooray!(?)

What would we call the musical equivalent of "jumping the shark"? The 'Daddy Come Home' number on the end of DSLA with the bagpipes-- that was so very shark.

The only way it could have been more frightening would be if the devil had offered an accordion to all newcomers. *shudder*

Not necessarily. I think (just a guess/opinion, not a declaration) that you were moderated "incoherent" by somebody who disliked poor grammar and spelling. I gave you one or two pity mods because you're relatively new, and i personally feel in such cases it's better to offer a correction rather than smackdown. But if you append genuinely obnoxious, redundant, or trollique remarks to that thread, then i'll go post my opinions there, thus rescinding pity points.

It's not a perfect system, but it's not terribly unfair. And you seem to have been generally accepted and engaged in conversation around here (rightfully so, because you're nice to people here) whereas some of us [blush... i'm an idiot sometimes] have been known to keep our heads too far up our own asses and our atrocious social skills can lead to far more backlash. You're doing fine, and it's not a terrible put-down just because you get a mod-down. These are conversations, laughter, jokes, occasional presentation of facts... but not entrance exams into Starfleet Academy. I think sometimes moderators look more favorably on posts with excellent English skills, and sometimes people just don't appreciate what is said, but none of the non-owner participants have any special power to make the system work any differently in your case [or mine or anybody else's]. I'm sure there are various forms of conformity-reinforcement working on different levels, as in most social situations, but i can tell you in my experience it's possible to be quite ridiculous around here and yet still be treated kindly by the very people ridiculing you.

And in no way am I implying that you're gay

Did you just get the newly-released Bush of Ghosts reissue? People with more time on their hands could have some fun here [bush-of-ghosts.com], too.

Speaking of itunes
I use the software all day long, but so far have never spent a penny at the online store. The majority of my music budget goes through GEMM.com lately.

I owned cassettes and my friends owned vinyl of the material until the early 1990s. I bought a few CDs (Naked, Uh-Oh, and The Forest), and eventually digitized the rest of our 1970s/1980s analog stuff, so the audio quality on those is not so great, but good enough for me.

[I bet if i dug through the shelves under my roommate's stereo i could find a twenty-two year old vinyl of Stop Making Sense. But i'd have to move all the thirty-five year old records by Ella, Duke, and Airto out of the way.]

I didn't know My Life in the Bush of Ghosts had been re-issued, but i should have figured as much when i heard a couple tracks recently on Space Station Soma [somafm.com], because they rarely play anything more than ten years old.

What was your worst waste of money?

In the 1989-1990 timeframe mine was a Mercury Lynx. Should have blown that fucker up, 'swhat i should've done! But that would be a waste of gasoline.... oh, wait, the gas-tank leaked anyway. Damn, another opportunity missed!

Nah, half the fun of downmods is figuring out what it was that bugged someone. The other half is doing it again to see if it gets the same reaction. The third half is being a moderator, but I have very little experience with that.

And sometimes moderators are just trying to get in on the joke [goats.com].

On a related tangent, I know this idea isn't original with me (and I'm too lazy to search the forums to find who thought of it first, though I can guess), but I've thought it might be an amusing distraction if some of us code monks (and whoever else wanted to play) collectively asked Phillip to drop each of us down to a karma of about 6 or so (just enough to start discussions) and see who could get back up to the magic 41 first. Heck, I'd even buy a t-shirt for the winner (or second place finisher if I were the winner).

Can you tell I'm avoiding packing boxes right now?
