Thursday Cliffhanger: 16 Feb 06
posted Thursday, February 16, 2006 - 05:27 PM (#31959)
Fineas and Diablo have landed on the home planet of the Snedroff Clan [goats.com]. (Thanks to the LG who reminded us [goats.com] of this place.) They're probably off to attack their old enemies, the Truhulu.

POLL: So where are Oliver, Carl, and Roger?

20% (5) Whereever they are, they're not here. Jon is trying to see if he can get about eight subplots running all at once. If Fineas were to meet Oliver again this soon, it wouldn't be complicated enough.

8% (2) It's a 7 Samurai thing. Oliver & Co. have been adopted by the Truhulu. Roger makes Gleen-free cupcakes. Carl teaches jiu-jitsu. Oliver sets up barricades. F & D will also have to help. The other 2 samurai will be ... Megan & Lauren. Yeah, that works.

0% (0) Oliver is a prisoner of the Snedroffs. Carl and Roger have already been eaten; Oliver is next. F & D must make a daring rescue involving deception, timing, and (for Diablo) pratfalls. Oliver will still not tell them of Phillip's last known location.

48% (12) It's a Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now thing. Oliver, like Kurtz, is now the leader of the Snedroffs. Fineas is like Marlowe. Carl is like that Dennis Hopper guy. The only difference is that Diablo is the one who will say "The horror, the horror".

24% (6) The Snedroffs are off to Happy Hour, not to attack the Truhulu. O has introduced alcohol to a species that had never known it before. C & R tend bar, while O handles exports. Unfortunately, Snedroff Ale is skunky by the time it reaches our dimension.
25 people have voted in this poll. (This poll is not active.)

I thought of something like that. However, these polls have a 250 character per option limitation, which I'm constantly fighting.

I suspect most people reading these things wish I would self-impose an even stricter limit.

This is the funniest TCP we've had in a while. Well done, sir.

I voted for the Heart of Darkness option. I was initially thinking of voting for the daring rescue option, but I decided that I simply could not endorse an option which endorsed the death of two of the greatest Goats characters.

You're in charge of what gets written, you're not the boss of what gets read. I use an adapted form of the Tele* filter. (where 'paragraph' is replaced by 'word')

True, though an occasional reminder that an option's humor is frequently inversely proportional to its length is something I surely need. It's better than having the Cartoonist yell at me for accidentally guessing what will happen next.

(Man, it was more fun when he ranted)

Lately i've been trying to be an incredible asshole only when i'm alone with my toys.

Over the past few months (year or two maybe?) i've been lessening the frequency, quantity, and complexity of my interactions with other people. By generally keeping to myself (or being involved in situations where things are very unlikely to get too personal or complicated) conflicts have been reduced. I think i'm actually happier this way. Fortunately, i rather enjoy my own solo company, i'm never bored; and when i do still interact with people, there has been a lot less friction lately.

Of course, i still might slip up tomorrow or next month, flying off the handle, shoving my foot in my mouth, doing some double-back-flip which inserts my head up my own ass, etc, etc. So i'm neither promising nor assuming anything.

Getting older and more decrepit and worn out at an accelerating rate certainly does factor in somewhere. After a certain point, the pleasure of surviving for a somewhat unusual duration becomes tinged with a tiny bit of trepidation, and this probably influences my motivations and impulses. So out comes less of the ranting, because i'd rather be doing something more pleasant during this statistically rare longevity... well, pleasant for me, anyway.

Well, i tried this product called Elbow Grease(TM) which contains a blend of water and mineral oil based substances as well as "oil of clove", and i decided i wasn't terribly happy with it. So i went back to my usual favorites: vegetable shortening (unscented generic Crisco) for the polyvinyl and silicone surfaces, Liquid K-Y (or generic equivalent) for latex, rubber, etc.

Oh, and about ninety-nine percent of the time when i've had the urge to say something utterly stupid on any forum lately, i've managed to refrain, and i just go play 5Faan MahJong on Yahoo instead. As a result, i am now one hell of a Yahoo MahJong [jaral.org] player, with the record of the most Limit Hands (Maximum Faan) [jaral.org] of anybody on the Advanced Level there in the past year.
