Thursday Cliffhanger Whatsit 22/12/05
posted Thursday, December 22, 2005 - 07:32 PM (#31022)
Proper date formation represent, yo. Um, I'm not much of a one for speculation, about anything really. It never occurs to me to try and guess what's going to happen in any given storyline. But I'll do my best to present the most likely scenarios for the following week, as I see them.

POLL: What Happens Next? The age-old question.

5% (1) John Lennon falls through time and space after a squid-eating competition goes horribly awry.

0% (0) Oliver develops terrible indigestion from an ill-advised calamari meal, injested by Khan Jr pre-beheading.

0% (0) Tidal wave swamps coastal village, inhabitants eaten by giant squid.

36% (7) Shut up about the squid, it's pretty obvious Fineas will come up with something to save his own hide, and any other plot points brought up will simply continue the reality merge between Goats and Worlds of Peril.

57% (11) Woody Allen, driven beyond the bounds of sanity, reveals his true form as the mighty Clhuthu. Everyone has a milkshake.
19 people have voted in this poll. (This poll is not active.)

#5 was perfectly correct on every count except the bit about the milkshakes. But you forgot to mention the ribbons.

They're very fetching ribbons. Some of them are pink.

Actually, I was hoping desperately that the phrase 'crispy fries' would be used, although Steve's instinctive pedantry made me laugh in a most inappropriate manner. (The resident Jew was playing a game and losing rather badly, and thought I was laughing at him. It was unfortunate.) Still, I can always dream.

And while I continue to admire the strip, actually, I find it worthwhile to note that I just now noticed the monkey attached to Khan Jr.'s neck in the bottom panel. Being who I am, I find that kind of detail tremendously amusing.

I think that's actually a monkey on his back.

Yes.. Either way, it's a good show.

I would argue that, whatever his many problems, neither Oliver nor Khan Jr. seem especially addictive personalities to me.

Rage issues, yes. Unhealthy obsessions, check. But even Oliver's intermittent smoking has clearly been primarily a means of rebellion and source of pleasure, rather than a burdensome problem.

Unless you count an inability to resolve one's anger as a problem of sufficient nature, in which case I would disagree on the specific definition but agree to its classification granting that point.

Or you could just mean in terms of approximate location, but it's clear that the monkey is holding on primarily - at least so far as we can view - to the neck, rather than the greater back region.

Or possibly I've put too much thought into this altogether. I think that means it's time to go have a drink.

Steve's instinctive pedantry

I like the fact that he appears to be holding up his hand to demonstrate "five".

And has three fingers.

I haven't watched the three volumes of Looney Tunes - Golden Collection that I got for Christmas yet.

I am about a third of the way through the first volume of the complete Calvin and Hobbes, though. And I've done some flipping through the Complete Peanuts 1955-1958 boxed set.

But taupe and ecru are a direct result of my mother, the comptetive Scrabble [amazon.com] player.

Okay, that's me, and Zamphir, and Peter Fox [ucomics.com] (link good for a limited time) that got the slipcased collection o' joy. Anybody else?
