Free Goats advertising
posted Thursday, June 16, 2005 - 12:50 AM (#28016)
I've been trying to think of ways to advertise Goats while i'm participating in the World Series of Poker [goats.com] early next month.

I'm supposed to wear EmpirePoker [empirepoker.com] t-shirt and hat. However, i just realized that there's an opportunity for advertising by using a "card protector," something to put over my cards to make sure they're not folded. Some people just throw one of their chips on top, but many others bring a personalized card protector (e.g. 2004 WSoP winner Greg 'Fossilman' Raymer's nickname stems from him using a fossil as a card protector).

If Jon or someone can think of something visible enough to have advertising value, but small enough to not be obtrusive, i'd love to use it. While the chances of it getting on ESPN aren't high, there is some chance since i do have a TV-friendly feel-good story what with my broken brain [livejournal.com] and all.

Anyone have any genius ideas? I have some Goats buttons, but those would only be visible from overhead. Something visible to a camera from across the table would be ideal.

Are you allowed to drink a beer while playing? If so a Goats mug or coaster would be a possibility.

Aside from that, it's all about temporary tattoos.

Probably no more than 3 or 4 inches high, a couple inches in depth, and 6" long. The smaller and lighter the better in terms of it not being to cumbersome to plop onto or off of my cards. Of course, that's counter to the object of making it visible for advertising purposes.

A smallish figurine would work for poker purposes, but not so much for advertising. I don't have any good ideas.

As for timing, my flight leaves on July 6. I should have asked earlier, but i didn't think of it as i was too busy getting EmpirePoker to admit that their employee promised me the buy-in.

Granted, i forgot the indefinite article in that sentence.

I'm not sure, exactly, how EmpirePoker can enforce this, but i figure i'd like to remain on their good side. Plus, i feel as though i owe them since they did me the favor of transferring my buy-in to the WSoP when legally they could have told me to use it or lose it. Moreover, since if i recruit anyone to EmpirePoker using my link [empirepoker.com] i get 20-25% of the rake (i.e. the casino's cut on betting), so wearing their garb might help me get people.

Now, i could try embroidering my ILoP cape [goats.com] with the Goats logo, but then i'd have Mark Rogaski all over my ass for abusing my expense account for non-ILoP purposes.

This cape idea got me thinking. A jacket or hoodie with a big, highly visible Goats.com logo on the back that i could drape over the back my chair would probably be more effective than any card protector. The problem is that i don't see any products fitting that description currently nor am i sure that i've i given you enough lead time to make one.

I'm going to have to pass on all the other tattoo and wearing multiple hats/visors suggestions, since i'd rather not look like more of a tool than i actually am. Then again, considering the fact that i'm going to be wearing frozen beauty eye masks for part of the time due to my eyes sucking, i don't know what i'm worrying about.
