You know... Despite several artists I follow being in it, I really wasn't considering buying that anthology at all until just now.

I tell people who got the book to enjoy about 50% of the book.

Not to tell you how to run things, but you may want to slap up a highly visible 'email me when this goes on sale' deal to capitalize on the publicity, since the preorder is closed and all.

Forgivenesses if I missed such a feature.

One step at a time.

The biggest priority is to mail out the preorders for now.

The next step is to figure how many books to save for the internet, since we may need most of this print for conventions.

Yeah, just take down the emails of those interested in some way. Generally a good idea when you want to sell something.

That page served a commercial purpose when it was accepting pre-orders. Right now it's just showing off your wares but not offering any way for the short attention span monkeys (like me) who are driven by impulsive purchases to be reminded of their desire to purchase it.

With online sales, you generally want to be as instantly-accepting as possible. The internet is like a virtual candy rack by the checkout line; usually impulsive and very short attention span. You want to lock in your sales while you have gotten the customer's attention for the brief moment in the sun that a more popular venue links to you prominantly. If boingboing/digg/slashdot linked you right now, thousands and thousands of nerds would go "wow, that's neat", and only a tiny fraction would remember to follow up on their own later.

Heck, I'd go as far as accepting paypal orders or somesuch towards the second printing. Just be clear that the orders wouldn't be processed until (fill in estimated date here). That way you get maximum goodness from exposure, and a down payment on the second printing, and some gauge as to how long the legs on your product are.

Just some thoughts. I, at least, am interested enough to check back later.

I enjoyed my copy. Not every story was great but I don't think you can never get 100% approval on "collection of" books. Each artist or writer has their own style and some readers don't like that style. The "train" story comes to mind. I have to re-read it but as of now I didn't understand it. Like I said, I'll have to re-read it but on face value that was a story which I didn't like (no offense to the artist). I didn't like every story in 'Flight' either but I still ordered volume 2 so I will be getting volume 2 of DP if/when it comes out.

On a side note, I appreciated the foam "slip cover" packaging. It kept the book even safer in the mail, especially if the envelope were to get wet.

Actually none of our forum members are from Australia.

A few of the more pathetic ones pretend to be from Australia, just to make themselves seem cooler, but it doesn't really work.

All of the regular participants here actually live in a warehouse a few blocks away from the Peculiar Pub, where we are hooked up to machinary that uses our body heat to generate steam to generate electricity to run the servers.

Well, it's not much of a living. But Jon waves at us from a catwalk every few weeks, and Phillip shows us the beer he drinks every few days. And the water isn't much worse than regular NY tap.

And the rent is very reasonable for Manhattan.
