There's some good critical analysis of recent events over at this blog [blogspot.com] concerning Fish/Fineas' metamorhposis. While I think the author has jumped the gun a bit by declaring the opportunity for character growth and change to be over already (especially since there's still another year or so left in the larger story arc, and a few twists and turns along the way), it's definitely food for thought.

I really like how you handled scale in today's comic. Fish looks very Rambo-ish with his huge gun and bandolier of bullets, but really it's just a handgun and a few extra bullets for it. Very cool.

I don't like this person's writing.

The content may or may not be worthwhile, but the presentation bothers me.

Jon, seeing how you know the coming story arc (at least better than the rest of us), what does your fondness for this article say about where Fish/Fineas is going? Or were you more interested in the points the author was making about webcomic characters in general?

On another note, it's good to see Toothgnip again. He hadn't been around since January, and I was worried that he might be disappearing again, as he did when he went to Hollywood for many months last year. I guess that Oliver's been away for even longer, though I can't say that I have the same affection for him.

Well. I guess some of it comes from the content not the presentation, looking at it again.

But I think there are too many adjectives.

I must agree. The very mention of a Kitten/Poptart Singularity had me in stitches. Good one Jon. Nice to see a classic rearing its head into the continuity again.

And, on a slightly unrelated point, is Fineas channeling Hunter S Thompson? Makes sense really, considering the amount of alcohol he's consumed over the years.

Pretty sure that a membrane absorbing oxygen from water is gonna pick up alcohol.

If you use consume in terms of an absorption level then, yeah he did.

Unless this is another joke you made that no one else got and it was sort of related to the "I didn't inhale" thing. In which case I guess you are still you.

You may, once again, claim someone else stole your joke.

Which is probably, more amusing than the joke anyhow,

I have this funny feeling that the "continuity porn" that is Worlds of Peril is about to become more continuous. Why do I have a horrible feeling that Fineas's ideas might shatter reality and give rise to metachickens?

Phillip's name is a killing word [goats.com] and Fineas has plans within plans. These next coupla years are gonna be cool.

Speaking of gills, did Mendel endow Fineas with a set of lungs? Or some super-powered gills that can pick up water vapor? It seems that it wasn't that long ago that Fish was asking Oliver to get him a glass of water so he could breathe...

Fish/Fineas is immortal -- he no longer needs to breathe. Although he does enjoy the ocasional glass of water.

"Yes sir," said the waiter, laying on the patience with a trowel, "this is Milliways - the Restaurant at the End of the Universe."

"End of what?" said Arthur.

"The Universe," repeated the waiter, very clearly and unnecessarily distinctly.

"When did that end?" said Arthur.

"In just a few minutes, sir," said the waiter. He took a deep breath. He didn't need to do this since his body was supplied with the peculiar assortment of gases it required for survival from a small intravenous device strapped to his leg. There are times, however, when whatever your metabolism you have to take a deep breath.
