Contest: Pirate Monkey Robot, at home
posted Thursday, May 06, 2004 - 06:46 AM (#16845)
This is still an another unofficial contest (even if it does show up on the News page), sponsored by me. Jon & Phillip will deny all involvement with it, and continue to keep me out of their wills.

The Contest:
We've all watched as Pirate Monkey Robot saved the day countless times! We thrilled to his adventures in the Jungles of Lascivious Tax Accountants. We swooned with delight as he renegotiated the peace treaty between the Little Blue People of the Underwater City of Mahalo and the Chickens of The Sea. And who can forget when he single-handedly delivered that extra keg of Hefeweizen to Phillip's birthday party, just when the last one had gone dry?

But who is this mysterious fellow? This creature that is part Robot, part Pirate, and *all* Monkey? What does he do in his private time?

Submit a picture showing Pirate Monkey Robot taking his leisure at home.

You must submit a graphic image, either by posting it here in this thread, or by email to me as an image or a link (and I will host or post it). This image should represent Pirate Monkey Robot relaxing at home with one of his favorite hobbies.

Eligibility:
This contest is also only open to registered members. Keep your Poopmeistering to yourself! But do remember that registration is free, and fun!

The Prize:
The winner of this contest will win an item of their choice from the Goats store valued at $25 or less including shipping (with a little slack to cover international delivery if needed). In conjunction with Monkey MAYhem, the winner may choose instead one of the other Monkey MAYhem shirts.

The Deadline:
You must submit your entry by 12:00 pm (Midnight) Friday May 21st 2004. This is shorter than the last few contests by a bit, and *way* shorter than the last art contest. So show me that you're not lazy, and enter!

The Judging:
Entries will be judged on content, style, apparent level of effort, and sense of humor - in no particular order. Goat_Girl has kindly agreed to be my co-judge.

Okay kids, you've only got two weeks, and I want to see those entries flying in!

Now go! Be creative! Make...art.

I'm stuck at home not doing much, recovering from pneumonia. So this is probably the most productive thing I'll do for the next few days:

Both a color and bw version [cyberpawz.com]

Pirate Monkey Robot relaxing in his study, having just completed his latest model. Click on the picture until you get the full-size version, or you can't see all the details. But be warned, the color version is 1.5 megs if you're on dialup. (And even if you aren't.)

The hardest part was getting rid of the guy who was sitting at the desk before. Bleh.

Or you can do what I did.

That is, if you're incredibly masochistic you can do what I did. I'll lay out the process.

First, wrongly estimate the size of your original drawing, so it ends up spreading across four A4 pages. For extra credit, be too lazy to find a ruler or to rip the sheets out of your sketchpad, and simply guesstimate the join areas.

Now, find a low quality digital camera. Make sure you do this next bit at night, in your living room, with several competing light sources all casting shadows across the pages. Take photos of the pictures, two to a page. The photos should be of varying sizes and light intensities, just to make it fun, and ideally you should not bother to ensure your hand is steady, so some of the shots (but not all) will be blurry. Download the photos to your computer, and voila! You have now created one major headache ...

No, not really.

Unless it counts as an obscure reference if one thinks of *bump* as the sound of a dunting.

I'm just posting to get y'all to post entries. And to keep the Contest thread "fresh" at the top of the list.

Dunting: Cracking or breaking of pots when cold draghts are allowed to enter the kiln. Can also be caused by the free silica in the body being too fine.

Huh?

...never mind. I see this has been covered before [goats.com].
