You also have to use actual HTML rather than the bracket shorthand a lot of forums use. If you don't know how to do this, I believe the FAQ also gives a couple of the basics (like links and stuff).

Likewise BBCode or UBBCode (depending on the forum/other site) isn't for lazy people. It's not provide a front end to the underlying html so that people can't use html to royally screw with the site. Or at least that's the only purpose of it that I can think of.
