I just have to say that I love the colors in today's strip. It's just so sharp, clean, and I'm afraid Jon has spoiled us - I'm not sure I could ever go back to black & white strips again.

While I totally agree, the first thing that popped into my head when I read your post was "Mr. Rosenberg, with these colours, you are really spoiling us".

For what it's worth, I don't think I could go back to B&W either.

Good question. One option we've discussed would be to grayscale it. It would probably be the only realistic option unless we went to a much smaller format or a much higher cost.

Personally, I'd love to see them all recreated as a pop-up book. You could even have little levers and stuff so people can make the characters move. Push the little tab up and down, and watch Philip drink!

The strips on March 3rd and 5th have beautiful color, too. I especially like the panel with the flames rising up behind the ominous Chaos Pope (in the middle of this strip [goats.com] with the fuzzy dice-- what a keeper!).

I'm beginning to think that the bondage theme is recurring way more often than a lot of the other kinds of humor. Sure, it's not appearing as frequently as alcohol, or pedantry, for example; but it sure does crop up regularly, even despite the long-time absence of Sex Dwarf. I wonder what that says about the imagination of the artist?

I think that his recent remarks on the topic of "write what you know" [goats.com] and the comments he made about basing some of his ideas on real people, objects, and situations around himself-- these are factors which make me wonder whether he's surrounded by a horde of truly crazy wackos, or whether he's projecting a lot of his own craziness onto them. :-)

Maybe you could have a super special edition book that's in full color. Offer it at a premium price for those discerning readers who just have to have it in its original colored state. Granted, you might have to do a reader poll to determine just how many people would actually buy it, so as not to waste production costs n'nat.

Probably not economically feasible, from what I've learned of the way printing works. Not unless we wanted to charge ridiculous amounts of money or do a poor-quality print-on-demand dealie.

I'm not going to worry about this until it's time to do so. New options always present themselves over time, so we'll see what the options are in a couple of years when we get around to volume 7 or whatever we're up to.

I seem to remember that 200 copies of each hardback was printed, with a few still available. That should give you some idea of the size of the legion. I'm drooling at the thought of a full colour goats book, but I suspect Jon's right and the cost is going to be a stopper. Shame.

I just recieved all of John Allison's wonderful volumes in the mail today, and one of them is a full color lovefest augmented storyline of the Shelly=Zombie storyline.

Is how he published infeasable for you? It's quite snazzy... excepting of course the printers cutting error which folded the middlemost page into a little oragami shape (I was initially amazed that the book had a pop-up element... and then I realized it made no sense and part of the page had some of the printers marks still on it never trimmed... I guess I should email him about that...)

John's books are beautiful, but you will note that they use a diffferent format than we do. Smaller books are cheaper to produce. If we made a book that size (which we couldn't, since my strips aren't 4 panels square), folks would holler that the books don't line up right on their bookshelves. Plus, they hold only half the number of comics (one per page instead of two).

We've looked into all the options. We know what they are, and how much they cost, and it's really not worth discussing until we're ready to print. Which will be a couple of years at least.
