I nearly wrecked 'em!

More like Hyannis, I tell you! Jon's going to run off with the vast quantities of dosh he's snagged from Premiums, Future Monkeys, and "server troubles".

Februrary? February!!!!!!!

You beat me to it -- I was just coming in here to clarify.

Patent Pending is going on hiatus until February. I don't want to do this, but seeing as I'm finalizing the plans for my wedding in January (a mere 2 months away)), I had to cut something out of my hectic schedule. This week is the last one until I get back from the honeymoon.

Ah, what I wouldn't give for some actual dosh. If I had a nickel for every nickel I've made off of Goats and Patent Pending, I'd have no nickels. I don't feel teribly bright having spent almost 6 years working on something that hasn't put any coin in my pocket.

That's okay. We don't expect you to be bright.

Just funny.

And punctual.

:-)

It's perfectly reasonable for you to put PP on hiatus. It appears to be an up and coming trend on Moderntales, and it's a fine tradition of cliff-hanging you've followed as well.

On a side note, most women would tell you it's not your wedding - you're just there as a prop. Of course, I believe most women are wrong, and fortunately my wife agreed.

Congratulations on the wedding. Don't lock your knees when standing at the altar, it can lead to passing out, and that's considered humorous but bad form. And try very very hard to remember your lines. This is not easy!

Huh.

I thought you at least netted *something* off this. Guess having your own server is 'spensive.

Well, in 40 years, your rare early books will be like rare blues 78's.

Seriously, if I had lots of money, you'd get more nickels from me. You deserve 'em.

On the other hand, you know the laughs you have generated are literally in the tens of millions (using a conservative estimate of 1 laugh per 10 page views, I'm sure that's true). I'm going to guess that that's pretty valuable to you. How much money would someone have to pay you every day to convince you to draw a strip but never let anybody see it (and you don't get to draw a second strip - you get one or the other - people get to see the strip, or you get the money)?

I'm trying, really I am. It's difficult to find 12 free hours. I'm away most weekends this month (weddings, cons, and various social obligations), so that leaves weeknights. Friday nights belong to my wife. Thursday nights belong to the pub.

That means I have, maximum, 3 nights to draw. let's say that I have 4 hours per night (pretty high, actually -- usually with other obligations, it's more like 2 or 3). That's a total of 12 hours. 6 of those get eaten up by Goats dailies. That's 6 hours a week to do the Goats Sunday Strips, Patent Pending, answer email, work on Goats-related projects (search, secret stuff, merchandise, guest strips, publicity-related things) and write wedding thank-yous.

I really do want to get another PP out soon, but I'm going to lose it on this schedule. I don't even have enough time (or money) to buy cat food.

Some day, I'll actually make money off of this stuff, and everything will change. Until then, I'm slowly going mad.

Draw the regular Goats strip at the pub.

Or do two weeks of Post-its.

Or tell us to cheese off, you'll get it down when you darn well want to.

I like the idea of post-its too. I've been long awaiting some yellow sticky goodness on goats. Also, you mention doing guest strips. perhaps it's time again to get a few guest strips on goats, to give yourself a little free time. Trouble is, once you get some free time, you find something else that just has to get done to fill it. Damn that free time.

Get it done when you're good and ready for it. I have confidence it'll be good. And having you explode would cut down immensely on the amount of goats strips coming out =)

Besides, I collected "The Tick" back when after 6 months they would say "We're buckling down to put this out on a monthly schedule" and the next issue was 13 months later. No announcement either. This wait for Patent Pending is easy in comparison =)
