2003 SPEY Package Details

Wednesday, January 08, 2003 - 04:32 PM

I put up the details for this year's Super Premium End-of-Year Package up on the site over the weekend, but I've been so swamped trying to get the rest of the month's comic strips done in anticipation of my upcoming nuptials and honeymoon that I haven't had a moment to post about it until now.

Some ado: These package specs are not set in stone. This is what we'd like to send out; I'm about 95% sure that there won't be any changes to the list. There are a couple of items on it that are new, though, and we need to make sure that they're actually doable. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be, but in the interests of complete disclosure and honesty, I figured it would be best to be up front about that sort of thing. We're also open to suggestions from the peanut gallery if there's an overwhelming preference for some particular change.

So, without further ado, read on for the details....

  • NEW Limited Edition Mystery T-Shirt
I see this as a pretty standard feature -- we'll offer a brand-new design every year. The response to the current SPEY shirts was so overwhelming that we're going to try and do additional screen-printed designs throughout the year on a limited basis. More details on that soon.
  • Limited Edition Handmade Woodcut Print
Your choice of Toothgnip or Diablo, suitable for framing. This is one of those things I'm a bit unsure about, as I've never done a woodcut print before, but Amy is a master printmaker and she's agreed to show me the ropes. I think they'll be more compelling than last year's character sketches, and be less damaging to my wrists.
  • Original Full-Color Goats Mini-Comic
This one I'm excited about. Many of you already own the books, so doing something original (and in color) seemed the best way to go. Again, we haven't done any color printing before, so this is subject to change if we can't find a reasonble way to get them produced. I don't think it'll be a problem, though.
  • Goats Fridge Magnet
I added this at the last minute. Whee!
  • NEW Goats Buttons
(set of 4) 4 new designs in the same style as the old ones.
  • NEW Goats Stickers
(2 sets of 3 vinyl color beauties) We're gonna print up 2 new sticker designs and give you a taste of each one.
  • OLD Goats Tattoos
(same old 10 bad-ass Diablo tats) We have a ton of these left -- we ordered about 5,000. If we manage to get through all of them by the end of the year (we do a brisk business in free tattoos at conventions), we'll offer a new design. If not, you get to replenish your stock.
  • NEW Certificate of Member-ness
With exciting new words in an incredible new order.
That's it for now; let us know what you think, and if you're not already a Super-Premium member, what are you waiting for?

No, it's this year. Remember that New Year's Eve thing we had a little while back? It's 2003 now.

I am still waiting for my cheese from last year's SPEY.

It said I was entitled to cheese.

At least I still have my stapler.

Overwhelming response? :(

Gah... I need to get back to my 95%-of-the-year home and claim my hard-won goats prize. The wait is torture, but the free food at the Parent's house is too good to pass up.

The Hierarchy of Neccesities went Food -> Clothing -> Shelter -> Goats -> Etc..., right?

Perhaps his T-Shirt is so tight it hurts. That explains the obscenity. The lack of oxygen caused by said tightness causes the lack of words?

I like the idea of the woodcut, magnet, and color comic. My concern, Jon, is that I won't be re-subscribing until my current Super Premium is near the end (9/03) so you might be swamped with other SP people re-subscribing near the end of their year too.
I know you want new people but we 'originals' might wait which will throw your workload way off.
Just a concerned reader...

Actually, we're counting on this. The way that the PayPal subscription system works is that unless you cancel beforehand, it automatically rebills you on a yearly cycle (we'll send out reminders via email about a week before that happens, in case you want to cancel. Incidentally, even if you cancel long before your subscription is up, you're only cancelling the rebilling -- you still have access to the premium features for the full year you paid for). While I'm sure there will be some churn, I expect at least 90% of the SP subscribers to re-up for the second year.

One of the benefits of doing, say, a woodcut print instead of a character sketch is that while the initial work will take more time, the time to make an additional print is minimal. As long as the numbers don't skew ridiculously one way or the other, we should be fine.

Besides, it would be strange and uncomfortable if my workload was ever to become manageable.
