Beware Of The SPEY

Monday, December 30, 2002 - 08:10 AM

For those of you who are Preemies, and more specifically, for those of you who are Super-Preemies, your 2002 Super-Premium End-of-Year Package (SPEY Package) is on its way.

Well, that's not entirely true. A bunch of them are on their way. I want to thank all of you patient people who write me impatiently asking when you were getting your package for your patience. It took longer than I expected to get the 100 character sketches done (and some of them turned out very, very weird), and our Fulfillment department came down with a particularly nasty stomach virus, so it took longer to get the packages together than we had anticipated. We're gonna shoot to have them on your doorsteps by Christmas next year.

Anyway, the first batch of 30 or so should be on its way today, and the next batches of 30 or so will go out soon after. So watch your mailbox for a big white box full of Goats goodness. We've been discussing the contents of what might be in the 2003 SPEY Package, and we've got some good ideas. Once we've got that nailed down, we'll be sure to let you know.

It's a little unclear to me, are you saying that you expect to have *all* the SPEYs shipped out really soon (as opposed to Real Soon Now)?

If not, are you going to be notifying people that their box has shipped?

Is there *any* chance I could get a tracking number for mine?

As for SPEY '03, I have the following suggestions for things to include:
1) Siobain
2) Toothgnip
3) A stuffed Diablo with removeable head
4) More wrist-killing hand-drawn custom sketches.
5) Bubblegum

But I'm in an evil mood this morning...

How do you propose that Jon ship Siobain to 100+ readers?

I doubt Jon has time to perfect cloning and aging technology between now and the end of the year in order to allow everyone to get their own, personal Siobain, what with his upcoming wedding and all.

Is he to chop her up into little bitty pieces?

Or should Jon send her to one reader and have the reader send Siobain on to the next reader once he's done with her?

Besides, i'm not so sure that Siobain would care for being sent to certain people [goats.com]...

These are details that I'm sure a mind of Jon's caliber can handle without any trouble.

Heck, it would probably only take a minor tweak of the Kittens=PopTarts machine. Or possibly some use of PTP [goats.com].

And I did say I was in an evil mood this morning.

Yes, they're all going out as soon as our Fulfillment Department has the opportunity to pack up the remaining ones and drag them over to the Post Office. He can only drag about 30 at a time, so I would guess that it'll take about a week, probably no more than two.

If not, are you going to be notifying people that their box has shipped?

I'll notify everyone here when they've all gone out.

Is there *any* chance I could get a tracking number for mine?

They're shipping Priority Mail, which is nice because it's cheap and will arrive quickly in 2-3 days, but is not so nice because there's no tracking.

As an alternative to showering today, I got all the domestic packages over to the post office, in two-super-sized loads that caused much consternation amongst the people who had to sit there and punch in lots of zip codes for them.

There's nothing that makes a day more fun than spending a cumulative hour standing in line at the local Post Office.

I'm shooting to drag the international's over tomorrow. They're going to be their own batch since I"ll be spending a good portion of tonight filling out customs forms to bring with me tomorrow.

On the plus side, I can see the server rack again, which had been obscured by the piles of boxes accumulating in front of it. It looks like all the machines are still there.

ok...we called them "End-of-Year" packages and we meant it.

The last of them (the internationals) went out today, airmail, and will hopefully be arriving not too far into the new year.

I'm quite happy to have these out of my limited NYC office space. :)

Lo, 'tis the eve of my birthday, and what do I find on my stoop but a glorious box of Super Preemie joy! Excellent timing, I must say. I'm quite pleased with the contents, and I'll take this opportunity to use the new img feature to share my character sketch with y'all.

I also came home and found a SPEY waiting for me. I am spiritually fulfilled for the first time in my life. I will now deposit stickers of beavers flipping people off everywhere they will fit. Nothing shows off spiritual fullfillment like wildlife making obscene gestures.
