Ubercon!

Monday, December 23, 2002 - 01:27 PM

You may have noticed the ads for Ubercon running on the site for the last few days. Ubercon is a gaming convention, conveniently in the New York Metro area, and despite our complete lack of connection to anything gaming-oriented, we're gonna be there.

We've booked a table, and we have some t-shirts, so that makes us a legit merchant for some reason. Yes, make sure you don't miss out on this extraordinary event! Watch as we force photocopied flyers onto unsuspecting passers-by! Gaze longingly at our overpriced merchandise! Observe our inability to talk to women!

Convention guests include Steve Jackson, games maestro and long-time Goats reader and advocate, and that guy who draws the potato with the switchblade, who will most likely be trying to hawk plush potatoes with switchblades, much like that time he did when we were at that other convention and he lost that verbal jell-o wrestling match to us.

Fuck, no. You're three thousand miles away. I didn't even go to Chris Baldwin's thing, and he's WAY closer, AND he had strippers.

-m, can't knock strippers... too soft and bouncy, y'know.

Would if I could, but I'm going to Thailand for a month, and will have no money upon my return. But I have been assured that there are internet cafes sprinkled generously throughout the country, due to its tourist-saturated economy, so at least I will not be entirely Goats-deprived.

Hmm, I ought to bring my phrase book along to work tonight, and attempt to translate a couple prime strips into Thai. Then I would leave them in restrooms at bars and nightclubs and such, to confound passersby. Or maybe that is a very bizzare end-of-the-12-hour-night-shift thought that will fall through the instant I try my hand at Thai characters. That's more likely.

No, but I just filled in my Professional App for this year's San Diego Con. And depending on how finances and other fluctuating factors go, I may also hit SPX and, if it still exists, Wizard World. *yAy*!

Just so you're aware, using discount code earlybird before Jan. 15th saves you $10 on admission. Also, discount code avatar saves $10 on admission anytime (including AFTER Jan 15). This makes it a bit more affordable.

They haven't announced it yet, but Ubercon tells me that Jon and Phil will do a webcomics panel on Sunday at 11 am, with Pete Abrams (Sluggy Freelance, or if you prefer, the-guy-that-draws-the-potato-with-the-switchblade ), Randy Milholland (Something Positive), and me (PartiallyClips). Pete and I are there to demo Get Nifty, a card game we have developed around his comic.

I'm looking forward to this panel. I am still the newbie of the group, but I have some nice successes I can mention this time. Slowly and deliberately, over a period of years, I shall claw my way into a place in the Webcomics Pantheon.
