JPBC Is No More

The JPBC Store is now closed, at least until there's some resolution of the ongoing research into what exactly is protected speech when it comes to trademark parody. I've spoken to some rather knowledgeable lawyers in the past few days, and the general consensus is that we definitely have a case -- there's no chance that people will be confused by it, it doesn't defame the trademark in the sense that it doesn't discuss sex or drugs (which have been the arguments for past cases), and the commercial aspect, while weakening our case, does not mean that we are unable to continue.

That being said, the money issue still remains -- a court battle could mean hundreds of thousands of dollars spent, and it's simply not worth it. However, since we still haven't been served a Cease and Desist directly, I will continue to look into sensible options to continue selling JPBC merchandise. I have at least one idea which may make quite a bit of sense, and I'll fill you in on that soon.

I want to thank all of you that have written in with emails of support, all of you who who bought products in the last few days (we sold more merchandise that we would have in decades, I think), and Goats readers in general -- I couldn't ask for a group of better people. You have no idea how much it's meant to me, and thanks to you all.
