Guest Week Has Arrived!

Sunday, July 14, 2002 - 12:52 PM

Guest Week has arrived at Goats! For the next twelve days, each and every day including the weekend, we're going to be featuring another guest artist taking a turn at depicting their version of the Goats cast. (If you're wondering how a week can be twelve days long, well, we're using special gourmet physics. Not that typical, bland time-and-space crap.) Here's the rundown: And there you go. Schedule subject to change, guest strips void where prohibited by law. Be sure to check out the websites of our participating artists, and let them know if you enjoyed their work!

What a fabulous line up! If only you could have gotten Scott Baio to do a guest strip, the lineup would have been perfect. POOPIES!

ACK! More webcomics I might have to start reading on a regular basis! I thought 10 a day was enough!

Confusing? Yes.

Whoa that is very confusing. I have inadvertantly made the world more confusing!!!

Mostly I did it because in conversations with people, the title of it was an obstacle to getting to the actual point. I wanted conversations to go less from:

"So what do you do?"
"I do a comic."
"Oh really what's it called?"
"Wigu."
"Wigu? What does that mean."
"Well, it's a kid's name..."

to --

"So what do you do?"
"I do a comic called 'When I Grow Up."
"Oh really what's it about?"
"It is about a kid and his goth sister and parents and a space potato superhero."
"Wow cool, I'd like to see it."
"I'd like you to see it too, what are you doing later?"
"Um, not much really... why?"
"Well we could go back to your apartment or mine and I could draw your picture."
"You can do that?"
"Yeah I can also draw pictures on your body..."

So does guest week fit into the continuity (such as it stands) of the strip? Today's (Tuesday) really seems to.

I'm just trying to get clues as to what the fate is of our intrepid heroes.

I also want some intrepid gyros, but that's a different matter altogether.

Um, sure. Why not.

Seriously, it's just a guest week. The artists were given a bare minimum of guidelines; everything that goes up this week is purely of their creation. Most of them did their strips long before they even knew how the last "canon" storyline turned out. They're standalones, for the most part.

If you're waiting to see what happens, well... I guess you'll just have to be patient.

BWAHAHAchach... *cough*

It's not quite that simple....

Each strip undergoes thorough scrutiny and full inspections before it is allowed on the site. In fact, for every post-it that appears, I need to create 10 or 15 in order to make sure that at least one will be of sufficient quality to merit posting. Additionally, there's wastage from spilled beers, coffee, and post-scotch drool that needs to be acccounted for.

stick figures aren't as easy to draw as those more traditional "2-D" strips, y'know.

She didn't mention specifically what it was about the guest strip she liked. Or the guest strip at all really. But I could tell that's why she wanted me to see those pictures.
