We're all sorry to hear that, and our prayers are with you.
R.I.P. Claude.
Last night Amy and I had to put our cat Claude to sleep. Claude was eight years old. His kidneys failed, and he did not respond to treatment. He had a couple of days left at most, and he was suffering, so on the advice of the veterinarian we made what was probably the hardest decision we have ever had to make.
Claude has been my constant companion for the last six years. He sat next to me while I worked on most of the comics on this site. He followed me around wherever I went. He inspired a lot of the comics I have written about Jon's relationship with Diablo.
I did not realize that you could be this heartbroken about a pet, but I guess you can.
I'm going to take a break from comics for the rest of the week, I am not feeling very funny. I am going to work on store stuff, catch up on email, all the little tasks that don't require much thought. Goats will return on Monday.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.
We're all sorry to hear that, and our prayers are with you.
R.I.P. Claude.
my cat, Kato, was my best friend through high school, and it still hurts when i think about the wayhe had to go. take your time, jon.

sorry to hear that man...
I have lost many cats throughout the year and every time it is hard :S
take care now
I had to put a cat to sleep 2 years ago and I've lost two since then due to divorce. Your post made me cry.
I am sorry about Claude. Pets are important members of the family. My sincere condolences.
I'm so sorry to hear about Claude. I've had to have a few pets put to sleep, and I know that it makes things even harder. For what it's worth, I'm sure you did the right thing.
Remember that he had a good home and a good life.
I went through renal failure four years ago and I know the pain involved. You did the right thing.
I'm SO very sorry Jon, Words cannot make the pain any less but I will have you & Amy in my heart this day and the days following.
I just lost one of my favorite goats last week and my heart is aching as well- some people don't realize just how close your heart can get to a critter and those who do share your heartfelt pain. Take the time you need and may your memories of your Beloved Claude be vivid and happy always. goatlady....
They're pets only to people who don't know and love them. To those of us who share our lives with them, they're family.
Sorry for your loss, man.
I've had to do this before, and it's never easy. Never. Words aren't enough...and yet, in the end they're what we have. So I'll keep it simple. My heart goes out to you and Amy right now, and even though Claude is no longer at your side, a part of him will never leave you.
The tears leave. The smiles remain.
So sorry... take the time off you need. My own cats are sick, one with kidney failure, and I know I will have to face the same decision myself too soon.
Take care of yourself.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Take as much time as you need.
Pets are our family, as Claude was clearly yours. We grieve for them as we would anyone who took the time to get to know us and vice versa.
My wife and I had to put down Rey a year ago on the same conditions - nothing about that is anything I ever want to experience again.
thoughts are with you

This summer my family had to put down our two dogs, about a month apart. I totally understand not wanting to do any comics right now. Take all the time you need.
And remember that even though it's incredibly hard to lose them, it's more than worth it to have them.

I know how tough it is - I lost my cat in March to cancer and I still tear up occasionally when I think about her. Gradually, though, you'll remember the fun times more and more often - the crazy things that Claude used to do before he got sick, and the way he would greet you when you came in the door - and it gets easier to deal with. I'm not sure I believe in heaven for people, but I believe in one for pets. :) I know they actually deserve it.
Take care,
Ivy from Arizona
Cats are family in a very true sense. Sorry to hear about the loss in yours.
I hope he's got a lot of mice to chase and peons to taunt in his afterlife.
When I lost my cat Fish, it was a big blow to the whole house. He was the first, and he raised all the other kittens we had over the years.
I sympathize...and hope that both of our cats are rolling in never-ending fields of catnip in Elysium.

Just over a year ago, my family's cat Spot's kidneys failed too. She lost about eight pounds in a matter of weeks. We had her euthanized.
It was an odd time for me, since she'd been around for as long as I could remember (I'm eighteen), and I'd never lost anyone before. It made me afraid of losing anyone else.
So I dressed as a cat for Halloween.
Anyway, I'm sorry not to see a new comic, but I'm even sorrier for your loss. Take as long as you need to.
It's the price we pay for becoming attatched to the people in our lives, no matter what species they are, that we feel such grief when they are no longer with us. My cat is a precious member of my family, and I know that I will eventually need to face life without her. Much sympathy.
I went through something similar a couple of years ago with my previous cat, Springer. He'd been with my family for 13 years. It was an awful thing to have to go through. For whatever it's worth, my heart's with you, man.
It's never easy to put a pet to sleep. My sympathies for your loss.
I bet he and my Petey are chasing each other around right now and eating from the human table at dinner. (:
It is never easy to choose to put a beloved pet to sleep, but please be reassured that you made the right decision in not letting him suffer.
You have my sincerest condolences for your loss.
