"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind!"
Welcome to our new website, folks! The new Goats site is now running on our brand-new site architecture. Most of the changes are under the hood. Hopefully you won't notice anything different aside from the baby-safe furnishings.
Amongst the new features are a retooled archive with a navigation more suited to a strip that's been running for nine years. We've also added a fancy new bios section which should help newcomers understand what's been going on here a bit better. I'll be adding a story guide in the next few days to help out in that area as well.
One of the casualties of the redesign has been our Premium section. As you may have noticed, Goats has gone from a thrice-weekly black-and-white strip to something coming out four times a week, in color, and twice as big as it used to be. And while I've gotten more proficient over that time, it's taking up a lot more of my time than it used to. So I've decided to refocus myself on the main strip.
This was not an easy decision to make. The Premium subscribers are our biggest supporters, and we.... well, we love you guys. Not carnally or nothing, just a gooshy kind of platonic deal. And I don't want to screw you guys over, so from here on out we're extending your access, FOR FREE, to the premium section indefinitely, until the end of time in 2012, or until we decide to crank up the Premium offerings again to a level I feel is worth the money you so kindly pay us.
In addition to that you will be receiving your SPEY packages as soon as I complete them. The mini is my next big priority and once that's done we'll get them out to you ASAP. On this, I thank you for your patience and understanding. I want to make this the best SPEY yet, and I have the perfect t-shirt for you guys, all designed already and everything. Hang in there a bit more and we'll get you your care packages as soon as we can.
And finally, we'll be finishing up Worlds of Peril; you will not be left hanging. They're going to come at a slow rate but I promise you'll get to see the whole story. There's about ten episodes to go (give or take), and they should be balls-out action from here on in. I'm looking forward to it.
Like I said, I don't make this decision lightly. Premium was a good revenue stream for us, but I think I need to be focusing on creating the best comic strip possible, and I hope that you understand this. If you have any concerns as a premium person, or if this deal seems raw to you, email me and I will take care of you.
Anyway, I hope you like the new site. And if you don't, give it a few days. It may grow on you.
And if you don't like it after a few days, well, then screw you.
So how much do we have to pay for the carnal love again?
yeah, i'm getting some VERY strange spacing and lining up in the forums while running firefox. Buttons not appearing until i mouse over and then the moderation box is partially coving some of the profile/email/etc buttons. fyi.
Unlike pirate treasure, apparently Firefox's cache is something you don't want. Go empty it.
And I knew Jon had plotted to ruin nested conversations. Because it is so much better when everybody is yelling at the same time.
Well this explains the Paypal cancellation notice I received today.
Please make sure that you've cleared your cache; stylesheets get cached in Firefox and the forums have a separate stylesheet from the main one. Likely you are seeing the old sheets.
The site has been built in and tested heavily within Firefox, I'm not anticipating many bugs for that browser. If there's an issue, it is likely yours. Safari, IE and kin are another matter.
I'll be making tweaks here and there over the next week or two, so don't fret too much if you see things that are awry.
ad display should no longer be an issue, if you're seeing them somewhere, post the URL.
That is so pretty. it is much better than what i had been seing before... i liked it at first, but now i'm wondering how we lived without it!
I'm a sort of a newbie and still playing that card. I was just getting used to the old look, now I'm lost again (hehe, not really). Anyway, grey background much better than white. Cheers to the new look!
Out of curiosity, is the majority of your viewership using Firefox?
It's the top browser for this site, actually. But I develop for it first because I find that it's the browser that sticks to standards the best and has the fewest CSS bugs. If I build for Firefox, generally I have to do a lot less tweaking for IE than if it were the other way around.
Firefox 41.8 %
MS Internet Explorer 35.2 %
Unknown 8.2 %
Safari 7.9 %
Opera 3.1 %
Mozilla 1.5 %
Netscape 0.6 %
Wget 0.3 %
K-Meleon 0.2 %
Camino 0.2 %
it makes me feel better if i think that the IE users don't have a choice as to their browser (at work, etc). yes, that makes it all better...
On diablo's bio "lapsed" is misspelled.
as is ambitious in the same bio.
Am I the only one that finds it odd that Safari is beating the pants off of Opera? I thought Opera was a strong #3 to IE and FF.
Well, safari comes as the default browser on OSX, so this could be telling you something about the demographics of Jon's readership.
Me and my Mozilla will be over here.
To pick a little nit, while the bio of Fineas is thorough and nicely done, it does leave out the beginning as Fish, which should be linked back to the original strip with him in it.
*throws nit into fire*
