I Am A Person In Webcomics

Monday, December 19, 2005 - 10:35 AM

Just a heads-up that I have been named one of Comixpedia's People in Webcomics for 2005 or something. Number #14 (scroll down a bit), specifically, which I guess means that John Allison is 11 units more in webcomics than I am. I'm not really sure what they're trying to measure, to be honest, or if they are trying to measure anything it all. I am guessing they do not know themselves or are trying to be very politic about the whole thing.

Anyway, there is a terrible picture of me in there so at least there will be something for you to laugh at.

The rest of the article is worth a gander, if only to learn that Shaennon Garrity is the best comics artist ever and that Tiberius Campbell has named one of my theories for me, saving me the effort.

It's always nice to see Phillip's tireless efforts get their just appreciation from the world at large.

Hey we apologized in advance! What else do you want? :) It is kind of an apples and oranges list. It's mostly an attempt to capture who's done the most interesting stuff business, tech, art, innovation-wise during the year. Comparing Jon to Joey Manley though when you think about it is kind of pointless - they're each doing their own thing and doing well. So the order of the list isn't really that meaningful. But by naming a list hopefully we'll draw attention to some of the positive things related to webcomics this year Kurtz ought to like that, right? :) And the regular old media loves lists so we'll see if any of this filters out to the broader comics press at least (if not anything else) - last year it at least caught the interest of some of the broader comics press.

I mean this in the nicest possible way.

That photo looks like it was taken with a camera that went through the washing machine. And it looks like you just woke up from passing out after a bender and sleeping in your clothes. I bet your driver's license picture looks better.

But congrats on the article.

Jeff, just drawing comics is not that important in being in webcomics. The actual quality of your webcomics is actually irrelevant.

If you want to be in webcomics you have to pretend you are a pundit and say lots of obvious and/or inflamatory things. You should know this by now.

How does that differ from real punditry, as opposed to faux punditry?

Better benefits?

I guess faking your own death in your SIDE PROJECT COMIC and actually proving webcomics could be financially sucessful enough to warrant renting a cargo van and having an actual Operation and having an 1800 square foot office is completely irrelevant too.

What matters is you holler a lot of bullshit about what you do. I'm happy with going out for sushi and sake once a week.

Whereas I often do.

It's this funny guilt complex. Being raised Catholic has done horrible things to my psyche, you know.

Fortunately, I presently get paid to be nice to people, or at least fake it in a moderately convincing manner. I like to think of it as exploiting my traumatic childhood for fun and profit.
