A Short Delay

Wednesday, September 21, 2005 - 07:16 PM

So I managed to hit three art stores in Manhattan this evening, walking briskly between each, exactly at their respective closing times. I was denied entry into each by stern employees brandishing an oversized keyring, even after it was explained to them that this was an Art Emergency. Alas, there was little sympathy for my plight, and I was turned away into the night without the pad of Bristol Smooth and the Pigma Micron 05 that I need to do tomorrow's comic strip. The confluence of the timing of each store's closing and the simultaneous need for both paper and pens on the same day leads me to believe there was some sort of Intelligent Designer influencing events. Such bad luck could not have occurred through the traditional Darwinian forces, and could only be the product of a malevolent supernatural entity.

So, no strip for Thursday morning. But I'll try to get it up by the afternoon after a daytime raid on the shelves of Pearl Paint. Promise. It'll be worth the wait.

Any of you know of a good 24-hour (or late nite) art supply store in NYC? Preferably between 34th and Houston, but I'll take what I can get.

UPDATE: Patient Reader, your comic is now up and available for reading.

The bastards! Surely they must understand the horror of an Art Emergency.

Then again, if you work with poo as a medium, the nearest art store is only a burrito away.

But that's probably another story.

I prefer oatmeal over a burrito. It produces a much more workable consistancy...

Looks like you're in the "back to school" hours of your local Utrecht Arts [utrechtart.com]

Probably horribly over priced.

Why would any so-called "Intelligent" Design prevent those of us up at un-Godly hours (note: God... Intelligent Design) from reading our daily Goats and toddling safely off to bed? I think the intelligence of this design needs to be called into question. Any design that allows twinkies to survive a nuclear blast, but only lets the cockroaches enjoy them...

Had you a small object teleporter, I could have sent you a fresh one real quick-like. Next time, be sure you have one of those.

Well, now at least I'll have something to do this afternoon.

How long does one of these pens last? I always go by the adage "Start the last (food item, computer accessory, toiletries, etc.) put it on the shopping list."
Making time to shop is a different story.

His work ethic is there. He tried three stores. And he explained the delay.

I'm surprised brandishing money at the keyring wielding employees didn't get the door opened.

Diablo managed to get his strip up on time. Why didn't you just borrow stuff from him?

It's unclear to me how someone with a satanic chicken at their disposal is unable to thwart a simple keyring-bearer.

NYC art stores just don't stay open past 7. After 3 years of pulling art-related all-nighters, I've slowly come to accept it. More like the city that ALWAYS sleeps.

It doesn't seem reasonable to assign such labels to it, given that Neil and Bob's ray guns are made with alien technology.

Of course, for normal earth pomme frittes, one would deep fry, rather than use any sort of oven. For extra crispness, one would actually deep fry the potatos twice.

I love this storyline. Every comic has a cliff-hanger, yet they are all funny. And we get to see a new side of Neil and Bob. Everyone wins.
