Bye Mitch

Thursday, March 31, 2005 - 03:20 PM

Rumor has it that Mitch Hedberg has died from a heroin overdose. I'm hoping that it's just an early April Fool's Day gag, Andy Kaufman-style, as it's not being widely reported yet (just some mentions on Howard Stern and Comedy Central and such) but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.

All my beers tonight will be dedicated to Mitch, dead or otherwise.

I was in Baltimore a week and a half ago, and saw his name on a club marquee -- he was scheduled to play on the 30th. I remarked to my wife that I was very disappointed that we wouldn't be in town.

Ah, fuck.

And now I'm very disappointed in you.

Man.

Just, damn.

I guess that's it, though. Johnny Cochrane, Mitch Hedberg, and Terri Schaivo. That completes the "celebrities always die in threes" rule, and the world is safe again.

Wait a sec! His official website has no mention of his death (even says that he's going to be in the area until April 3rd) and it was last updated Thurday, when he supposedly died Wednesday.

Maybe this IS just a joke.

Nope, that's the pope, he has been working on this years gag for some time now, all that faking parkinsons etc. Even I had to admit that the tracheotomy was really showing dedication to the prank.

Being in Australia we know about the jokes a few hours before the rest of you guys.

I hope it's not true, even though it probably is. I really liked Mitch Hedberg; I thought he was very funny.

i don't think terri schiavo counts as a celebrity, honestly.

but, if you think about it, the pope is ailing, fallwell is in the hospital. now all we need is for pat robertson to choke on something and we're well on our way to another three.

Actually, she has more in common with Cochrane than Hedberg. That being that she is specifically a media celebrity.

Now you can replace Terri Schiavo with the pope.

Or maybe replace Mitch Hedberg, since I'm betting Terri Schiavo was actually more famous than him, sadly.

Sadly, enough, that's true. I was telling people on Friday, "Mitch Hedburg died on Wednesday, I just heard on the news." They were all like, "Who?" Pissed me off.

It would seem its not a joke.
And for the record, his family says that he died of heart complications. Although I wouldn't be suprised if herion or other drugs had something to do with it. It really is all very sad.
Mitch will be missed.
