Last Chance for Hardcover Books

Wednesday, January 05, 2005 - 08:34 AM

For those of you who are rounding out your limited edition signed casebound Goats book collection, now's your last chance. We're completely out of matched sets. We're down to our last Volume I&II, and a handful of Volume IVs (we still have a bunch of Volume IIIs). We're hoping to make some space for the new reprints we just got, and the upcoming Volume V (which will not be available in hardcover), so regardless of whether they sell or not we're going to discontinue the hardcovers at the end of January.

So if you've been procrastinating, consider this fair warning -- you will not get another chance to purchase a hardcover Goats book after this month.

UPDATE: Volume I/II hardcovers are now SOLD OUT.

Ah, but cash soothes that pain. That or Preparation-H.

In all seriousness, I'd be very interested in a casebound V, as I already have all 3 of the others, and I don't want it to feel uncomfortable out on my shelf.

However, if you've still got stock of the others, I can see where you're coming from.

That's like if Lucas had put out Episodes I + II and then decided not to put out III.

If everything else is out in hardback, this should too. People are willing to pay for it, ne?

And how many books should that apply to? 6? 7? 12? Should we be forever beholden to put out hardcovers as long as we print books?

I think your analogy is a bit off -- Goats V will be released, it just doesn't have the same wrapper as the prior volumes.

And while this is not anything to do with your analogy, it's worth noting: neither Jon nor Lucas have any obligation to release what you think they should. If they do so in furtherance of their own goals (not the least being the ability to avoid losing money on the deal), then great.

After it's out, we can say that we liked it or not (that's our prerogative for laying out the cost of purchase), but we don't get to say what they "should" produce.

I am pretty sure we've been through this, yes, you are. You owe me dammit!

You all owe me.

On the bright side it means we can all make our own hardbacks using the softcover and finally the collection will have the human skin covering it begs for.

You mean with the paperbacks? Nah. Kind of defeats the purpose of numbering them if they're not a limited edition.

But you can put your number in the cover if it'll make you feel better.

Exactly, only with more Livejournals.
