If only I *could* vote. I was born to an American in Dublin, Ireland and promptly registered as an overseas birth. I've held an American passport since I was 4 months old. However it turns out that as I've never *lived* in the US I can't vote. I suppose that is some what understandable. However why would I want to up sticks and move away from England and Blair to the US and possibly Bush? It's out of the frying pan and in the the fire. Perhaps if I could cast my vote for sanity in the States I wouldn't be so vehemently against living there.

We do *not* demand a shrubbery in this case!

Make sure you bring something to cover up your "Republicans for Voldemort" t-shirt at your polling place. Poll workers may not appreciate you electioneering for our Dark Lord.

My wife wore her Republicans for Voldemort T-Shirt (though she covered it up with a jacket while actually voting).

The Democratic Party Pollster gave her a big thumbs up and laughed. The Republican guy just fumed. LOL...it was great.

Then again my car had this on the back (and was parked right in view of everyone parking):

As well as an RfV sticker.

I have a nice anti-bush shirt that I will be sporting to the polls. I bought it for $10 from some guys that had a couple bags full of these black shirts with a crude picture of bush "behind" the symbol for no.

Think, no smoking, only far more serious...well maybe, people go apeshit about that no-smoking thing.

I'm voting for Kerry (I think he'll surprise all of the "Kerry-hater for Kerry" types), but I thought it was worth noting this...

I can hear Conrad's narration now:

When last we left our intrepid moose and squirrel, they had been tied to a torpedo by the villainous Badnarik, who was about to reveal the details of his nefarious plan!

I always used to love it when the narrator would get in arguments with the characters. No fourth wall in limited animation tv satire.

Having a voluntary election on a weekday? I assume it is not a public holiday.

Sheesh why not pay people not to vote...

We have compulsory voting on a weekend.

Actually, the date is enshrined in the Constitution, and it's a pain to change (intentionally). Given the very strong lazyass tendencies in this country, weekends might actually drop participation rates somewhat.

And if you want to hear the Christian Right make even more noise, try scheduling an election on a SUNDAY. Horrors.

I remember getting school off on election day, particularly as this is where polls often are located. However, my wife is teaching today - polls open 6:30 - 7:30. Might as well not open up until 4:00 pm for her.

compulsory voting

Smells like freedom to me! However, that might take care of some registration issues . . . .

incompetency? :D sounds like somebody's hired GW Bush to do the newsposts!

I don't live in the US, and I must say I pity you for your lack of choice. for European standards, both Bush and Kerry are at the far right of politics. a corrupt religious plutocrat, or an unclear so-called "liberal" soldier. Nader is in the political center for our standards. I'm glad we in the Netherlands have a one man - one vote system.

Karma, In honor of being the 1111th poll respondent, I decided to come out of Lurking, (Lurkage?). I took Nader's advice and voted my conscience and voted for Badnarik. I couln't vote for McCarthy Jr. And if it had been a close election where I live (heavily Republican state) I would have voted for Kerry. But, Oh well.
