Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Fundraiser

Tuesday, September 21, 2004 - 09:02 PM

I got the following note from our good friend Jeff the other day. Please read, and, if you can, help him out by sponsoring him in the Light the Night Walk, which raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
A few years ago, my Mom was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. A unique feature of CLL is that it can remain asymptomatic for years, so she's been very lucky in that it has not affected her lifestyle or required treatment yet. Because of this, Mom asked us not to tell anybody. She didn't want people to treat her like a "patient," and we wanted to respect her privacy.

For a variety of reasons, though, Mom has now decided to "come out." She feels strongly that by going public and becoming active, she can help the thousands of other people battling blood cancers. So many of our friends and family are joining us on Thursday, October 14 for the Light the Night Walk here in New York City, and we're raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

All donations are tax deductible, and you can use your credit card to sponsor me on the web.

We would also love to have you along on the walk this October 14! If you'd like to join us (and you don't even have to raise money), please register at lightthenight.org, and don't forget to select "Anbinder" when you have the opportunity to join a team.

Thank you so much!

Best wishes,

Jeffrey T. Anbinder

I have lymphoma.

Wait. Had. Had! I was officially declared in complete remission on Sept. 3, but I still have to do radiation to keep it from coming back.

So, there, now you all have a personal connection to the cause. Sort of. Maybe not all that personal. Anyhow. Go donate, because chemo sucks ass. They need a way of curing this shit that doesn't involve injecting you with several bags of toxic chemicals.

Hey, thanks for featuring the Light the Night walk! This is something we are participating in here in our town -- we have a team of about 20 people. We became aware of leukemia when a baby on my parenting forum was diagnosed at 4 months. Unfortunately, she died 9/13, just a few days shy of 9 months old.

In my fundraising travels, I have encountered so many people whose lives have been touched by leukemia. I encourage everyone to donate if possible -- researchers have made so much progress, and they really believe a cure is within reach!

So donate, walk, get involved! :)

Hell, let's face it, we're not responsible for anything; including the things we say, do, or think. And if you sue us because you think we are? Well, we're not responsible for that either.
