Original Strip Art On The Way

Sunday, August 08, 2004 - 01:52 PM

For those of you who donated $100 or more during our donations drive, your original strip art is on the way. I mailed them out late last week and it looks like the first of them have begun to arrive. They were sent out via regular first-class mail in most instances, so I suspect the vast majority of them will arrive within a week, and a few will trickle in after an additional week; overseas folks should allow additional time for overseasness. If you haven't gotten yours within the next two weeks, please email me (jon at goats dot com) and we'll figure something out.

Getting these out involved sorting through all 1500 strips and getting them into date order, a monumental task that I want to thank my wife Amy for helping with. I would not have been able to do this (or anything involving thought or organization or surviving through the day, really) without her.

I'm still waiting on strip choices from Christopher N., Daniel P., and Randy M., so guys, email me when you can so I can send those last three out. If I don't hear from you within three weeks, I'll send out strips of my choice, and you don't want that.

Got mine yesterday (brains4zombies [goats.com]) and I was suprised to see that the middle panel has no lettering in it. It makes sense, being typed and all, but it's not as funny a strip (though the mysteriousness is upped quite a bit). But still... you know.

So, if I happen to run into you on the street, and I happen to have the strip with me, would you mind penciling in the bits that were added later?

It's the original production art; I can't do the arial-font lettering by hand. That was done on a computer. But you are probably smart enough to have figured that out.

If you were interested in, say, mounting these for display purposes, I suggest you get a print made of the completed comic strip and mount that in the same frame as the original art. That way people can get the joke. If you want a hi-res file of the completed strip, let me know and I'll email it to you.

On its way. Hope you have room for 4 megs in your inbox.

Anyone else who wants a hi-res version of the strip they bought, please email me at jon at goats dot com (I can't reliably keep up with requests on the board here).

I got mine and danced around madly. Scared the cat. So I figured I'd actually post, after having been registered for more than a year.
Thanks a bunch,

Got mine [goats.com] yesterday, in perfect condition! Thanks so much for using the super-tough envelopes that survived the predations of the USPS.

So, I got my original art, and I'm stoked. I'm planning on matting and framing it, but I wanted an opinion from everyone else (and maybe Jon) on what to do. The strip is on the top half of the paper, so would it be sacrilege to trim the original paper and center the art in the frame? Perhaps I should print out a hi-res goats logo to put underneath the art and hide the fact that it's not centered? Anyone else had ideas?

As Jon suggested [goats.com], I plan to go with a high res printout of the strip in its final form below the original art, with both matted in the same frame.

I would have the framer trin the bristol to fit. It'll look nicer.

I can also email you a hi-res file of the strip if you want to mount it alongside the finished version.

They're arriving abroad now too - and for bonus points we dirty foreigners get a signed customs declaration too.

(Heck, I even get lettering on mine 'cause I went retro...)

I figure I'll just check, but I haven't received my art yet. You still shipping stuff out?

Looks like I missed yours -- it never got included with the mailing. I have one or two that still need to go out, so I'll send yours out probably early next week. Sorry for the delay.
