Unconventional Comics

Thursday, June 17, 2004 - 08:57 AM

I thought you guys might like to see the comics of the folks who have been portrayed in the current series. Everyone seems to be enjoying their appearances, so I am glad not to have made any new enemies. Enjoy!

You are well known in comic circles for your humbleness and mild manner.

Oh, wait.

That's JohnA, not RStevens.

Do you (jon) ever run into Tatsuya Ishida [sinfest.net] or Fred Gallagher [megatokyo.com] at these conventions? Cause, if these two fine artists were depicted in the current series, the complete set of online comics I frequent would be represented. Not that I'm saying they need to be, just that I read a what seems to be a lot of online comics, and almost all of them have so far been depicted here. Just remarking on the completeness of it all...

I think I'll shut up now...

Well, there's a little newspost on the bizarre discrepance between Tycho and Gabe's real appearance and their webcomic avatars over at http://www.escaped.it

Perhaps, being what many people have termed 'obsessive' in regards to reading webcomics, my perspective on this matter is skewed by having actually talked to/been drawn on by Mike and Jerry. Still, I was under the impression that even very intermittent readers of Penny Arcade were familiar with the fact that Gabe and Tycho have evolved into representations of their creators, rather than having been intended as direct representations from their genesis.

To sum up in small words for the face of poop: Of course they don't look like that, you flaming idiot. It's morons like you who have pigeonholed them into two comic characters.

Yea, their real names aren't even Gabe and Tycho. Or at least their last names aren't what they are in the comics. I think it's both. You can find their last names at the very bottom of the PA web site.

Um...now that I get thinking, did Sakuruth give their names in his post? Mike & Jerry? I don't know who he's referring to, so maybe that's them. Or someone else entirely. I'm confused now.

Uh...yea, that too. You just can't tell who's what on the net. Maybe this board could use some sort of male/female graphic next to a person's name.

I think that would destroy one of the best things about the internet - gender ambiguity.
Much easier just to expect you to remember. And then give you a good solid backhanded whack whenever you forget. That seems fair.

This series has gotten some coverage over at the Silver Bullet Comics [silverbull...cbooks.com] "webzine" in their All The Rage [silverbull...cbooks.com] column. Seventh item down or so.
