I actually met the man in black once.

On a practice day at Sears Point (the local racetrack), I was admiring a Ferrari (black) when a gentleman in a racesuit (black) walked up.

He was quite polite and answered my questions about his car, shared a few racing tips. All and all a nice guy.

Sigh. Well, after Ruth (She wrote Ring of Fire, I believe) died I guess he just lost the will...

He'll be sorely missed.

When i was very young (in the early-to-mid-70s) i had some family members who played his music all the time. Unfortunately, i never paid much attention in later years as my own musical tastes skewed far away into some other part of the spectra. But to this day, i will always remember his deep voice and catchy refrain from the song that gave "The Ring of Fire" its name...
