the geek test
posted Wednesday, May 28, 2003 - 09:48 AM (#5994)
Because there's no such thing as too many online tests (and there's not nearly enough ways to waste time at work)....

The Geek Test [innergeek.us]

Me? 41.02564% - Major Geek. I promise to do better next time.

Lots of Steve Jackson questions. I wonder if I get points for having drawn a card for a SJ game?

I'm not a big enough hard-science/math geek, alas. At least I beat Rosenberg.

<geek>
You do get points for having drawn a card for an SJ game. You just had to indicate that you deserved more points for things not listed in the test, in the Bonus Round.

Turns out that my distaste for mainstream society, literary knowledge, and having played Baldur's Gate are the only things that even got me on the list.

Does this mean I've actually been cool my whole life and just didn't know it? Or am I just so pathetic that 'geek' isn't a strong enough word?

And if you've drawn a card in a SJ game, you are the UberGeek! The Geek Prime, if you will.

Still, the key thing is not how geeky you are, but rather where you fit into the geek hierarchy. [brunching.com]

My god, only 31%, I thought I was a much bigger geek than that. Although I think possibly I should round that up as I was naturally inclined to quote my score to more decimal places than that, but made a conscious effort to restrain myself.

Thank you though, that's killed . . . aaaaaaaaa!!! only about a quarter of an hour!!!

Damn, I've just passed the test on to a few friends (who I though could also happily waste some time at work) and they all got much lower scores than me. Just when I was feeling all healthy and well-adjusted.

Incidentally, for those of you who'd like an international perspective (and for those who wouldn't but are going to get it anyway), geek's not that common a word in England. People usually call us nerds, or more usually don't actually call us at all if they can avoid it.

Well, technically, a geek is a person who bites the heads off of chickens in a side show at the circus... of course all the pedants here already knew that. Nerds, however (or at least the term "nerd"), are a creation of Dr. Seuss, later perfected by Willy Wonka.

Meanwhile, a dork is a part of a male whale's anatomy, a twit is a goldfish that is expecting, and a spaz is merely a clumsy person,
