Biggest roller coaster in the World

Yes, I know roller coasters are pretty provincial for all you Gothamites, but jeez!

Over the winter, I more-or-less promised my son I'd take him to the amusement park [cedarpoint.com] that has this gigantic 300-foot coaster with an 80 degree inclined first drop, after we saw it on the Travel "Vegas bankrolls us" Channel.

Then I start looking into the trip, and now they have a 420 foot coaster with a 90-degree-that's-right-absolutely-vertical first drop [topthrilldragster.com] that goes 120 miles an hour.

Coasters don't usually scare me, but I just don't want to go on it. I'd have a nine year old trying to hold me while I shrieked.

This post is the most wasteful use of my new topic-starting power I could imagine.

I can't see how that is called a roller coaster since the cars are launched and not pulled to the highest point, letting gravity do the work of the feelings of speed, g-forces, etc.

I haven't been to the Top Thrill Dragster yet (not for a few more months), but the Millennium Force is awesome. The track was designed very well, with a few surprises and twists; it's set up so that it looks like you'll be going up one hill directly in front of you, but the track actually veers off at the last moment and you don't come to that hill until much later. And it's very smooooooth. I really dislike some roller coasters that shake me around too much and give me headaches -- the Millennium Force didn't do that.

The other coasters at Cedar Point are pretty damn good, too. I really liked the feeling of flying on the Iron Dragon. Disaster Transport was pretty cool, but too short. And the Raptor was also exhillerating.

I still haven't decided yet whether or not I'd want to go on the Top Thrill Dragster. Something about that really just screams out "ANEURYSM!" to me.

Speaking of roller costers along the line of the Top Thrill Deathmarch, anyone ridden the "Mr. Freeze" at Six Flags? Evil. Fun. Mostly evil.

Yes, St. Louis Six Flags has the ride.

Yes, I've ridden it. It's fun, but it's a short ride.

When I was in Japan seven years ago I had the opportunity to ride the Fujiyama at the Fujikyu Highlands. It was the tallest rollercoaster in the world before Ceder Point completed the Millenium Force. It was immensely entertaining and was the first rollercoaster I'd ever ridden. Yes, I can say that I've ridden the two tallest rollercoasters in the world. Woo Hoo

what is this 'ne' you keep using?

Are you talking about half of an Oahu goose? Why? I mean, I'm sure they're tasty enough to eat, but what connection does that have to Roller Coasters? And why would you be referring to a Hawaiian animal, if you come from the 'uk', wherever that is...?

And who are you, anyway? Oh! Scott Baio! Right. You're talking about poopy, then.

Nah, he can't really come from the UK, 'cos as everyone here knows everyone from the UK is much smarter, more charming, and generally a greater pleasure to be around than Mr Poopy. Plus we can do all that clever stuff like proper spelling, using capital letters, introducing ourselves, and always get even the most obscure of cultural references... (And even if we don't, would never over-react in the slightest...)

Cheers,

Some friends and I drove over there for a few days from Chicago last month. Much to our dismay, the new ride was closed during that time. We did get to ride Milennium force like 5 times in the front though.. One of which, me and a friend tried to get out a map for the picture. Needless to say, the wind decimated it...

Conclusion: we killed 3 people because ride was closed.
