Excellent decision to come to Belgium!
I live in Brussels full time, and I can tell you this: any pub recommended by non-Belgians will be something for tourists where beer is over-priced!
There is one exception to this rule, though. It's called the "Delirium Cafe" which holds the record for most different beers offered (at least 2004 in stock all the time). There, you can taste beers from all over the world (but prices can be very high for some particularly exotic beers). It's right in the center of town, so you can go there after your sightseeing!
If you want to get a taste of the night life of real Belgians, walk through the streets of the center on a Friday night! Prices are generally higher in the center though.
If you intend on having a few drinks every night, I recommend going to a place called "Cimetière d'Ixelles" (it's an area, not a bar). That's where all the students go for a beer! So it's cheaper, there are people there every night of the week, you can chose among many bars, and people are generally more open to talk to complete strangers.
Have fun during your trip!
