New Yorkers Rock.

I've never understood why the rest of the country looks down on New York (before September, anyway). The people here are some of the smartest, nicest and most intelligent folks I've ever met. I think our distaste for bullshit and our tendency to be vocal about it is what got us our reputation.

That aside, here's another neat-o NYC phenomenon: When the power went out south of 14th street this weekend, people jumped in and helped direct traffic [janegalt.net] while the traffic lights were out, even going so far as to coordinate with people on adjacent blocks with hand signals to keep things flowing smoothly.

Yet another reason why I think New Yorkers are pretty freaking cool.

I was amazed when I went to New York a few years ago to see the sights and visit a friend. It was, possibly, the coolest place I've ever been. The people we met on our trip were very friendly. I had a total blast; the feeling of the city being alive, the skyscrapers and streets coming to life, is a feeling hard to find anywhere else.

I'd love to live there someday. Probably not for my whole life, but at least for a little while. :)

In Response to kumquat (#783):

Feelings mutual, I as well would like to live there. New Yorkers are definately a strange breed but easily distinguishable from the common citizenry, I guess the point of the whole elaborate plan for world domination. However, I would also like to live in Intercorse, Pa. and Blue Balls Pa, and yes they are real places. As for my location now, well if my dream comes true I will soon live in Camelot. Yes thats right, for the San Fernando Valley is planning to split away from the county of Los Angeles in the next election, and one of the proposed names is Camelot (true comedic genius). It has gotten unexpected support, and since i would love to live in the land of King Arthur I urge all who this election effects to vote for this initiative.

>>In the unlikely event that does happen, i would be looking for suggestions on what name to knight myself with.

Ooooh, don't forget Hell and Paradise, which are both conveniently located in Michigan, where I live! I've been to Hell but not Paradise. I've never lived in either.

Too bad... it would be fun to tell people I come from Hell... :D

Saying I come from Paradise might sound too much like a really bad attempt at a pick-up line, though. ;)

At my old job, I had to come in contact with people from our New York offices on a regular basis, and 30% of customers were from New York.

What a scary, scary breed of people. Once you chiseled past their crusty shell of anger, bitterness, and ungodly lack of patience, they were like cuddly playful kittens.
