I think the paraphrasing from her site is: "I'm an idiot who squanders money. Please give me more so I can squander that too."
Clearly that money should be donated to us instead, we're professional squanderers. :)

I think your paraphrase missed an important point she was making. I think she was saying "I'm an idiot who squanders money. Please give me more *because I'm cute* so I can squander that too.".
And what is the difference between a web comic artist, and a professional money squanderer?

I'd say the difference is just for the reasons I laugh at/with them.
Webcomics are funny in that pee my pants sort of way, where as such said squanderer(s) are just the sad and pathetic funny.

I'd be more depressed if she wasn't relatively unique.
I'm terribly worried that this is the first step down the slippery slope to http://www.sparesomechange.com/ (sparechange.com is a band, and gotchange.com is someone's linux box with no homepage for their apache distro).
And I am kinda glad that the Internet has an overcrowded market for visual/literary self-expression. It's nice to have a balance on the other overcrowded markets - schlock, porn, and schlocky porn.

I (male) own www.SpareSomeChange.com [sparesomechange.com]. It is a search engine for homeless resources like links to housing, food banks and other stuff to help needy people like myself!

being a virtual panhandler is (depressingly) unique
Huh? There's thousands of these sites. Everyone and their mother has a site up begging for money so that they can pay off their debts, buy bigger boobs, moon the whitehouse, or whatever. They were all the rage about a year or so back. They seem to be disappearing now, as people realise that giving money to strangers is better when said stranger actually gives something back.
Cheers,
Graham
