Do you have a song stuck in your head?
What song?
It's not sane... it's not saaaahhyneee....
Ain't nobody here but us turkeys [youtube.com]
I have had David Bowie's Rebel Rebel stuck in my head for the past month or so.
I saw a flying saucerIMNSHO DeeDee is as fantabulous an improviser as Betty Carter or Sarah Vaughan.
Zooming across the sky
Well I can't say anything about it
They'll all just say it's a lie
Now, i know a plane when i see one
And i know an automobile
But this was a flying saucer
Believe me, it was for real
I don't know just where it came from
Could have been Venus or Mars
But there is one thing that i'm sure of
It's not on a street with the cars
I saw a flying saucer
Zooming across the sky
Well I can't say anything about it
They'll all just say it's a lie
Dammit, now I've got the lyrics to Edgar Winter's Frankenstein in my head.
Copland, various selections from Appalachian Spring and Rodeo.
Snippets of the movie soundtrack for RHPS. And of course, I get the best verses stuck in my head at work, when I can't even sing them.
I do like Blind Melon, though.
The theme song for Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends [wikipedia.org].
Whatever's playing in those Volkswagen Rabbit commercials where the cars are playing in the park and all...
According to the Interwebs, it's "The Birds And the Bees" by Patrick and Eugene
I hate Volkswagen
Oh, just rub it in that I've got the SWA theme running through my head.
Well, it could be worse. It could be Copland's Lincoln Portrait.
I like Copland, so it's not really a problem; the only Copland I don't like is this one set of recordings of Jessye Norman trying to do traditionals like "I Got Me A Cat" It's pretty horrific.
I'm not familiar with the Norman recording. Actually, Lincoln Portrait is the only Copland piece I really dislike. Peter Schickele's Bach Portrait is a great send-up. And of course, P.D.Q. Bach's Fanfare for the Common Cold should be played every time there are fireworks.
I much prefer Keith, Greg, and Carl's rendition of Pictures at an Exhibition to most of the other orchestrations I've heard.
But PaaE is their tribute to Mussorgsky; their Copland versions are on Works (vol 1) and Trilogy.
Why yes, I did spend a bit too much time in the "E" section in my college-radio days, why do you ask?
ELP makes baby Mozart cry.
Scratch that, all babies.
I did spend a bit too much time in the "E" section in my college-radio daysFunny you should mention, i was never on E while actually in the DJ booth during my college-radio days. But i confess i was often very high on marijuana, and once i was coming down slowly from a large dose of LSD. I ingested something like a thousand micrograms shortly after sunrise, and fifteen or sixteen hours later i had regained sufficient functionality to correctly handle the mixing board, turntables, CD players, tape decks and carts, etc, when i went on the air at 11PM.
See, Brock agrees.
