Boycott the Omen
posted Monday, June 05, 2006 - 12:29 PM (#34820)

I know this may seem stupid, but I want to see if there is a way we can tell hollywood, "hey, stop being such pathetic morons."

DON'T GO SEE IT IN THE THEATERS, wait till it is on "on demand" for $1 a view at least.

If this remake of a classic movie bombs, not just does badly, but ends up in the red, we might be able to send the message that remaking classic movies is a bad idea.

If you haven't seen the origional, or don't really remember it, RENT that movie on 6/6/6 instead. It is a classic and Gregory Peck is fantastic as the lead role.

Please repost this on any other forums you are on and maybe we can actually start seeing some origional ideas come out of hollywood.

I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment - and frankly, I think the studio would have been better served by remastering the original and giving it a limited theater release. God knows it would have been cheaper.

Remaking something like Nosferatu is one thing (we've come a long way since b&w silents, baby!) but the original Omen was released in 1976, not 1922. It's only 30 years old, for pete's sake.

Meh. Count me among those who was never a fan of the original. I was more into The Exorcist [imdb.com], which sparked in me my lifelong dream to become a demonologist [wikipedia.org]. And look how close I am now to realizing that dream.

The real [imdb.com] blasphemy [filmstew.com] will come next year.

Whoa. The only one who can fuck with the Stooges is Iggy Pop. And those are different Stooges. This is outrageous!

I was actually talking with someone recently about whether the Three Stooges would have made it if they'd been aroudn today rather than earlier. My take that their particular kind of physical humor wouldn't make it--in part because we like violence so graphic that you'd end up with everyone but Moe bleeding profusely (and he'd still be mighty bruised).

But a REMAKE? I'm pretty confident that won't be funny.

Hollywood is all out of ideas and they're ripping whoever they can and making every movie twice.

I'm not inclined to see the movie because the trailer didn't suggest any story beyond "he's evil, he kills everyone, he dies in the end or is exorcised but a small evil spark is left for a sequel". Saw too many of those.

In all fairness, remakes and sequels are doing AWESOME.

Take for example, The Dukes of Hazzard. Or perhaps Herbie: Fully Loaded.

I mean come on? Did any original movie do nearly as well as those two last year?

It's Dr. Internet for the answers!

According to BoxOffice Mojo [boxofficemojo.com] The Dukes ranked #26 and Herbie #37 in domestic gross.

Of the top 10, 7 were sequels or remakes. The Chronicles of Narnia, #2, Wedding Crashers, #6, and Madagascar, #9, were the original films.
