I would have voted for Martin Yan but his chopping of vegetables to a rhythmic beat while he looks up and smiles annoys the hell out of me.

Alton's humorous and I learn cooking history to boot.

Jaques has a house one town over from me in CT. I never saw signs of life in it when going by.

The Graham Kerr I grew up with. He was just as much a part of my childhood as Mr. Rogers, and considerably more entertaining.

There are several chefs that I intentionally left out, as it is clear that almost nobody takes them seriously.

Paul Prudhomme and Justin Wilson, for example.

I would have liked to find a way to include Wolfgang Puck, but I was too lazy.

Gareth Blackstock [imdb.com]. Because even Anthony Bourdain never thought to tell a line cook:
Let me explain the order of things to you. There's the aristocracy, the upper class, the middle class, working class, dumb animals, waiters, creeping things, head lice, people who eat packet soup, then you.

He almost killed his lovely wife with his talents. But i personally am more likely to cook his 1990s recipes instead of his 1960s recipes (most of the time, anyway) although i probably wouldn't mind Death-By-Kerr. I eat red meat and dairy products, but in much healthier (i.e., usually smaller) portion sizes nowadays. My medications raise my cholesterol even when i'm cooking like Marilyn Diamond [amazon.com] , and it just seems terribly ironic that i have these elevated cardiovascular risks despite the fact that i'm usually on the borderline of being underweight. So i enjoy watching Kerr's oldest shows from the CBC, but i prefer to imitate his PBS material from three decades later. More zucchini, less whipped cream, etc, etc.

Unfortunately, they produced a DVD of the utterly excreble third series of Chef!, about which the less said, the better. But the first two series comprise Lenny Henry's best work (possibly excepting his reading of the Anansi Boys audiobook).

It was in the later years that Jeff Smith had Elmo on the show.

It was around the same time that he had the much younger (but still "age of consent") chef on - um.. Ken something?

Also remember that Jeff Smith was a Presbyterian minister, so Elmo was doubly suspicious a guest.

Sure, not a Catholic Priest, but...

Also, should I have included Mary Sue Milligan and Susan Feniger in the previous poll? I mean from their time on Great Chefs of the West, not their much lamer follow-up "Two Hot Tamales".
