Why I should have gone to Calgary...

Camping is sometimes less than fun. So much preparation...unless you're going for at least 4 days, it hardly seems worth it. And the insects!

I just got home from camping for 2 nights. The road was bad, it rained all Saturday, the fishing sucked hardcore, we got lost on the way home, and just as we were unpacking an UNOPENED mickey of Fireball fell and smashed all over the kitchen floor. Just damn lovely.

Please regale me with your worst camping stories that I might feel better about my own experience.

Going hiking in the desert for 2 days and forgetting my canteen. At least I had plenty of juice boxes!

When I got back, I chugged 3/4 of a gallon (almost 3 liters) of milk.

But do you ever see a person leave a cathedral toting a to-go box?

Coffins don't count.

In Response to Dynedain (#28086):

Desert = hot
hot - water = bad

Generally, I've had reasonably good experiences camping. My Dad was Army and always insisted on 6P for any venture.

The only bad experience was in the Lake District, summer 1979. Hiking up the Old Man, the cloud level suddenly fell and our Scout leader decided that he could navigate us down by map and compass. Visibility was about 4 feet. Our leader was a moron.

Luckily the cloud lifted as we were about 6 feet, I kid you not, from a 100ft verticle drop.

That was fun!

On the same trip we got flooded out on the last night of camp. It was summer, our camp site was on a hill side, nice and dry and over night there was a down poor which caused the hill above us to provide a wonderful supply of mud and water.

Great times!
