I was possibly almost [goats.com]in the same ballpark as the guys [bbc.co.uk]that haven't been proven to be right.

Deerboy, we know you have a loving and personal attachment to this topic.

Comments?

Anyone, who from the last poll didn't agree with Deerboy and so knows nothing about the topic, may simply talk about how close I was to something of interest.

oh yeah and my obvious solution is to put more particulate pollutants back in the air, sure they claim that might be killing third world people, but hey, think of the millionaires beach front property we save!

Kurt Cobain was right, it's all about albedo.

No, you were nowhere close to what these guys are talking about. Not even in the same ballpark (or cricket field). Not even tailgating.

My only attachment to this topic is to snuff out amazing quantities of public misinformation.

Do you think they could be correct though? Or is this pretty much old info that finally got whacked onto newspaper because those wacky scientists are arguing again?

I mentioned dust, they mentioned dust. That's about as close to right as I expect to be on any old day.

I never could figure out exactly what was suppose to be going on. Is it global warming and getting hotter by the day or is a second ice age coming? I wish I knew so I could either start stocking up on ice cubes or buying winter parkas.

I think we're heading into another ice age. It's going to be a little while off - maybe another couple hundred years or so. I remember watching a special about this topic on the Science Channel several months ago. I can't remember the details so maybe I'll run off and do a bit of reasearch and come back with a correct link - as this topic thouroughly fascinates me.

Hey, if they got data, they got data. All the speculation afterward is merely that. Part of the increased cloud cover could be attributable to jet contrainl, as well. There is an interesting feedback with the particulate matter that a bunch of forest fires will send particles up, making it harder to rain, making more forest fires likely.

The main problem is that the earth's climate system isn't simple like the internet. There are tons of these feedbacks and who knows which will be important, and what sort of negative feedbacks might kick in as climate changes.

First off, I don’t make this stuff up it just happens (Ok sometimes I make stuff up but not this time.).

“The iceberg B15-A, which is about 100 miles (160 kilometres) long and contains enough drinking water to supply the world for several months, was once part of the major B15 iceberg which broke off the Ross Ice Shelf on the edge of Antarctica five years ago.”

Add this to the fact that the North Pole is getting warmer and it could lead one to think (Bush administration excluded.) that there could be something to all this talk about Global Warming.

What I love was Neal Boortz's (how does one apostrophize a proper name ending in z? -- never mind, I don't want to hijack the thread) insistence, prior to the report being aired on the BBC, that this new evidence was going to show that pollution was slowing/preventing global warming.

Actually, a good analogy might be this: I'm the school bully, and I've been punching your arm for so long, that now each time I punch it, it gets more numb, so you feel my punches even less.

Now, some people might say that the solution would be to have the bully punch harder. I would say "stop punching" might be a better solution.

In any case, this should bolster the environmental cause, not weaken it. If trends like this continue, we could have less sunlight in general, eventually meaning that crops wouldn't grow as well.

I'm actually writing a research paper on something like this right now.

Someone mentioned the Larsen B ice shelf earlier, the thing is bigger than Rhode Island. Temperatures, in the antarctic at least, have been rising at a rate of .5 degrees Celsius per decade. The bit I'm writing about is how the melting sea ice is causing penguins to die off, vut right now the world is definitely warming up.

IF any of you have children, or plan to have children, you reall are the only ones with the right to worry. Either global warming, or second ice age, or both, is too far ahead of us for those of us with no legacy to worry about... er... hopefully my girlfriend won't disagree with that of course... oh man... i don't want kids... But, before i sidetracked myself again, i wanted to make a point that this seems like something that belongs in the irrational fear list, and, i think i'm going to put it there right now.
