Toothgnip's Ninjas vs Diablo's Pirates
posted Tuesday, October 19, 2004 - 01:10 PM (#21216)
Being a ninja myself, I'm a firm believer in the superiority of actual martial arts training over boozing, buggering, and cursing. But those scurvy dogs, the pirates, have their partisans too. They're wrong, but they do exist.

So, who wins?

POLL: Ninjas vs Pirates!

11% (4) Ninjas.

20% (7) Pirates.

20% (7) They all die.

26% (9) They make up, and Jesus buys them a smoothie.

20% (7) Neil and Bob.
34 people have voted in this poll. (This poll is not active.)

Ninjas can't swim very well.

Pirates have cannons that can shoot stuff on land, from afar.

Also, you can't be a ninja with that long hair.

I happen to be in agreeance with Zamphir on this one.

And as we have come to know through Disney productions - The Pirates of the Carribbean - that some pirates are very hot. Where as you can never really tell with ninjas because they've always got their faces covered. Or you get Tumm Tumm or Colt...whatever.

Agreement, I think you meant.

Also, don't quote Disney productions as canonical truth. They've made a trainwreck of already-mistreated stories before, and proof enough of that. I mean, consider The Little Mermaid. First the Grimms twist a local tale into their own bizarre, gory, and rather asexual creation (I'll take complaints about their total lack of scholastic integrity in a tangent, please) and then Disney removes the perfectly reasonable, if melancholy, ending in favor of sappy 'romance.' Ugh.

Don't forget that Disney has so completely run out of public domain sources to rip off (Brothers Grimm, et all) that they have begun to rip off themselves by making movies based on their own rides.

This has the added benefit of not having to build a ride or setup a parade for the movie.

I like the fact that Disney, who make a habit out of getting Congress to extend their copyrights in perpetuity (because it's all about the artistic integrity and property rights) is perfectly happy to argue [cnn.com] that everything else in the world is in the public domain.

But that's par for the course for the smiling, mouse-eared fascists of Central Florida.

Just all their stuff.

The blunderbusses and muskets are for the ninjas. While they're trying to sneak out to the ship.

Nah, I meant what I said.

And we can't really blame Disney for what they've done. Sappy romance endings sell and so why are they wrong for wanting to make money. And it also kind of goes along with the thought that a movie is only good if you leave the theater depressed.

I happen to like Disney movies, though I will admit that they have made their blunders - El Dorado. Of course, the company itself is now corupt and probably run by a group of evil monkeys from another dimension...but I just don't think about that when I watch The Little Mermaid or Pirates of the Carribbean.

Like shutting down the cel animation division because a piece of crap like Treasure Planet did poorly, therefore logical solution is to make future pieces of crap in CG? This resulted in them taking the best cel animator on the planet (Andreas Deja) and putting him on straight-to-video shovelware like the Bambi (shudder) "sequel"?

News flash to Eisner: the reason that Pixar is about to be six-for-six isn't because they use computer animation. It's because they have actual storytellers and writers instead of market researchers.

As far as ninjas vs. pirates, am I the only one who knows that face to face, every single one of the pirate's boners would explode while making a whistling sound, so it is not even a close fight. Ninjas are cool; and by cool, I mean totally sweet.

Yes, because a big honkin' artillery shell is STEALTHY.

Ninjas can't use artillery.

Until a real ninja uses it to hold your head back while he slits your throat from behind. Because he snuck up on you.
