Contest feedback
posted Monday, April 12, 2004 - 10:13 PM (#15837)
What do you think of the contests I've been running?

Complaints from lazy whiners aside, I've been doing everything I can to be as fair as I can - given that the contests are subjective.

Should I keep running these contests?

POLL: What kind of contest do you like?

22% (6) Haiku contests, because I am too lazy to write more than 17 syllables

22% (6) Word contests - because I was born with the verbose flag set and enjoy showing off my vocabulary

11% (3) Math contests - because I have no social skills at all and only talk to other people in numbers (1, 5, 9, 2, 15, 11)

29% (8) Art contests - because I am creative and not lazy at all and like to show off my new pens or PS filters!

14% (4) Puzzle/Trivia contests - because Dr. Internet has nothing on me
27 people have voted in this poll. (This poll is not active.)

Aargh! Need multiple selection opportunities. Add one third of a vote to each odd numbered option on my behalf.

I am interested in negative feedback, at least as much if not more so, than positive feedback.

If there's anything you haven't liked about my contests, other than that you didn't win, please tell me.

I've noticed, we're not mathematicians thus far.

Aside from that, your contests are fun, and good for somebody who works too damn much, and never has enough time to get properly drunk and goof off. Contest on!

The contests are great, especially as they cost me nothing and cost you something. The contests themselves seem to run a little long, which makes them lose momentum. I pretty much have disagreed with every decision to date, even when I didn't think I should win. Then again, I don't know much about art, but I know what I like.

We could do that, if you wanted.

You'd have to be able to elaborate on what you liked about the entries, and what you didn't like, though.

And Tynic is not going to be the second judge in the next contest.

Good golly, no. That would involve taking some responsibility instead of bitching and moaning from the sidelines. Cripes! You are crazy, man.

Simple rule - if everybody agrees with your decision, you didn't make a decision.

If memory serves me right, I did mention who I thought should've won the last one. And made my own comments about the judges, anyway.

Really, I was serious, but only joking. It all is subjective, and if you make me laugh or titilate me, then you are porbably doing something wrong. Like the wrongness Jon has been perpetrating for 7 years. If you want to buy people crap, pick who you want to don said gear. Just ask for pictures. The fun is in the competitions themselves, which I happen to think are great.

Yep, you did [goats.com].
Judging the contest was actually much harder work than I thought it would be. I ended up wanting to give out at least three or four prizes; choosing just one entry was agonising.

But as you said, if the decision is obvious, then it's not a decision. And thanks to Zamphir's apparently bottomless pockets, there will always be a next time.

(Of course, next time, you may have to compete against ... (dramatic pause) ... me! Bwahahahaha!)

You failed to properly consider the possibilities available to one with sufficient imagination.

Given a set of five items, there are lots of ways to enumerate them - even given an ordered set of five items. And not all of those ways would count as 'numbered'.

So, which ones are the "odd numbered" choices, then?

Units of surprise?

Isn't surprise a three-tuple S(x,y,z) such that x is an element of humor, y is an element of irony, z is an element of tragedy?

Or am I confusing that with a CFG?
