FARSCAPE IS BACK
posted Monday, April 05, 2004 - 04:17 PM (#15530)
Best news I've heard all year: Farscape is coming back for a four-hour miniseries [scifi.com].

POLL: Will you be watching the new Farscape miniseries?

21% (7) Space Muppets! Hell yes!

18% (6) Aeryn makes me tingly. I'll be there.

0% (0) No, because science fiction is stupid.

9% (3) What's Farscape?

50% (16) I put salami on my head!
32 people have voted in this poll. (This poll is not active.)

Farscape is only slightly better than Lexx.

It's certainly no Ice Pirates.

I haven't watched enough of Farscape to know if I'd like it. Really, I'd rather Firefly came back. That show was brilliant. Of course, I guess it wouldn't matter much if they did bring it back seeing as how I don't own a TV. It definitely would increase the odds of there being another DVD release.

No, because I never really got into it. Interesting...and I think I've seen most of the existing episodes...but not enough draw for me to watch it regularily (and I don't get SciFi).

Yes, they're working on the Firefly movie right now. Except they're calling it Serenity now. Named after the ship (which is named after a battle), rather than being named after the ship's model. I can't friggin' wait.

I haven't ever watched Farscape, but I've got the first season in my Netflix queue, which means I'm willing to learn.

You know, computers need a button that will do the equivalent of giving a program a good solid backhanded whack, so when a program is kinda working, but not really, you can whack on it a few times to get it to shape up.

I keep hitting my whack button, but i'm not sure what shape is sufficiently "up". Please let me know when to stop.

If you enjoyed Muppets as a kid, you might enjoy FarScape too.

Frankly, it got better after that.

You should all go watch Farscape from the beginning and see it straight through. Like all good things, it is an acquired taste, but it has kick-ass villains, a tough, wisecracking, pop-culture-referencing hero and hot alien babes. It is a taste worth acquiring.

I like to think of it as the inverse Star Trek.

You know what's irritating as hell? The fact that the episodes on the first Farscape DVD set aren't in order. The first disc contains eps. 1 & 7, second is 2 & 4, third 3 & 6, etc. There are 11 discs total! Cripes! Screw trying to get those through Netflix. I'll just find them on the net, thank you.

Speaking of Star Trek, what do you people think of Enterprise? I know a lot of people don't like it, but I do. Especially this season. I think most of the people who don't like it are basically just whining because they're not making more Next Generation episodes. This show is pretty different from that, which I think is cool.

The fact that the episodes on the first Farscape DVD set aren't in order.

They're in the right order in the UK. Should be the premiere, then "I, ET". Is that not the order over there? We also got single boxes for the first two seasons - slightly surprised you don't.

what do you people think of Enterprise?

It proves wrong everyone who thought that Star Trek had hit the lowest possible standard with Voyager.

Basically, it sucks. The stories are predictable and repetitive. The characters stereotypes and humourless. I can't think of a single redeeming feature. Even the gratuitious t&a isn't of sufficient quality to make it worth watching.

And, just to disprove your theory, I wasn't overly fond of the next gen. It was okay, but not stunning.

I have the same problem with all the B5 DVDs. Well, there are 6 per season but 100 bucks or so per season is a bit steep for me to plunk down at once. Luckily for me, I have friends who can afford it, so I've been watching it again with them.

Holy crap, they really ARE expensive. I think I'll just stick to my current method of watching them.

Oh yea. I started watching the show today. Got the first episode, and it was really really cool. Normally, when I watch the first episode of a show (and I won't watch a continuing-storyline show out of order), you get a somewhat mundane episode whose only purpose is to introduce the characters. In this, sure they only got chased around for a while, but it was great how they did it.

Here's a question for all you Farscape watchers:

I just finished watching Season 1, and am about to start Season 2 (obviously). However, I noticed that they also aired this season out of sequence, and had to make the first episode (Dream a Little Dream) into a flashback episode (8th in the season).

My question: should I watch the episodes in the order they aired in (and watch Mind The Baby first) or should I watch the 8th episode (Dream) first? The DVDs have Mind the Baby as the first episode, so I'm most likely to just watch them in the order they're in on the DVDs, but considering how the first season ended, I really want to see what happened.
