rejection: failure is inevitable

a casual perusal of your local newspaper's comics page will probably yield a selection of 'safe' comic morsels such as family circus, peanuts, blondie, boner's ark, and similar dull features. gone are the days of calvin and hobbes; never again will we see the likes of bloom county. even perennial favorites such as doonesbury have lost their luster these days.

this trend is by no means limited to the world of comic strips; today's movies are plotless celebrity vehicles with no value whatsoever, and t.v. sitcoms, well, they just suck.

due to an increasingly profit-oriented entertainment industry, coupled with the pressure tactics of self-appointed censorship groups hiding under the pretense of family values, we are seeing the beginnings of the death of innovation. it is so much safer to stay with the tried and true than to make waves by introducing something which doesn't insult an audience's intelligence.

that being said, take a look at what syndicates have had to say about 'goats: the comic strip' to the right.
